Of course SK have legitimate concerns about the North, so dose china, but countries like US and Japan claiming that NK is a treat to them is just so funny, anyone with a bit of knowledge about military knows that NK doesn't have the capability to launch any aggression against US and Japan, but you know their media is hyping up the NK like it is some sort of super power, there are many chinese and American intel suggests that those NK nuclear tests were fake, they don't have nuclear weapon, and will certainly never have under the strict sanctions. While I fully acknowledge South Korea's legitimate concerns about the North, I believe it will be wise for South Korea to think twice about over-relying for its defense and security, on the US who's a staunch ally of Japan, South Korea's nemesis. Apparently, there has been huge American pressure being brought to bear on South Korea regarding the installation of the THAAD system on its soil. This is a move which serves to undermine the increasingly cooperative spirit between South Korea and its most important economic partner, China.
Why is South Korea willingly putting itself in harm's way in the possible line of fire in case of a conflict between the US and China? Rather than being overtly defensive, perhaps it's time for China to seriously court Ecuador, Cuba and Venezuela to install its own version of missile defense system in the American periphery?
I think china can offer SK both economic benefits and security, i mean the real security, or we can ignore the NK, which is losing it value and becoming too hot to handle anyway, we can pass it to someone else, since some countries seems so eager to succeed our role, if you know what i mean. The unification would be a nightmare for some countries, they will do everything to stop it form happening, the South Koreans are smart people, they know that.
As for the THAAD system, the US is repeating the mistake they made to the EU countries to use them as cannon fodder, it will only further disappoints the South Koreans. Yes,the NK crappy missile can indeed hit South that for sure, but easy to intercept, the real stuff that the south is concerned are those thousands of artilleries, which can turn Seoul into a hellhole in few minutes. they know if the US is really want to protect them, some patriots and standards anti-air missile would be enough, they know the THAAD system is for countering china, not shielding the South.
