Bit of Paradox. Maharastra have some of the largest suicide rates of farmers in India, and yet pouring thousands of crores into so-called canals and everything, still some parts of MH are still dry. Corruption has eaten them.

Even if one divert the 530M into farming, building canals, de-silting lakes, reservoirs, its still going to be a failure. Doesnt matter if its a BJP or Congress govt. So its not bad to build a statue. If I remember right, the Thiruvalluvar statue built on an Island in Kaniyakumari always creates an steady state of income for the government. As such, its the responsibility of MH voters to see the decision and positive out of it. More power to federalism.

If Maharashtra was a poor state like Bihar / UP
or had a pathetic industrial base like BENGAL then such criticsm was acceptable

Maharastra is India's richest state and contributes the Maximum Taxes to the
Central Government

Maharashtra's GDP is BIGGER than Pakistan

There is poverty even in USA and Russia yet they spend trillions for maintaining their superpower status

Every part of India is the way it is because of circumstances and differing environments. Let's not get too judgemental. Just like @Rajaraja Chola says, there are differing times when each State of India has given great men and women for the Nation's cause.
Bengal has been steadily going down for decades now. It does not mean it will never come up and produce great leaders and contribute to the nation again.

The mughals reached their greatest size under Aurengzeb!
All empires come to an end and their end was due to an over extension with numerous power centers pulling in different directions.


The Maratha empire was worthless and fell in a historically short amount of time, not able to take on ir defeat strong threats like durrani or the British. India fell partially because of Maratha weakness.
If they had the courage of Tipu the British could have been defeated

Mumbai is not just one city ; taken together with its suburban areas and satellite towns
it is a Huge area

They lack industries , so they migrate in mass looking for jobs all over India...they turn a blind eye to illegal immigration, so we have Bangladeshi Muslims in every corner of India taking jobs away from local born and driving down wages....they cannot provide living wages, so the rest of India sends tax payer money to fund their welfare schemes. When one part of India is sick it affects the whole.

This is all the more sad because once upon a time Bengal was the light of India and to this day the arts flourish in that state. People get annoyed because the state has now become a drain on other states. It does not mean they cannot express their opinion...of course they can...but they will get some push back ......and a few tight slaps now and then to push them to sort themselves out and start flourishing again as they once did decades back and

...... till then we will keep subsidizing their foolishness and at the same time yelling at them like any family.

Don't take it personally..please read my second para..I have EMPHATICALLY DEFENDED the right of any citizen of India to have an opinion on anything going on in India.

I just wanted to point out that some of the cash crunch other states feel is because tax payer money goes to subsidize Bengal and that needs to change!
