To be fair, vn lags behind 15+ years, india 20+ years, based on the real value of dollar...This is only in terms of GDP per capita... "higher growth rate"? by how much??? you should compare the growth rate with China 15 years ago, which was double digit... "catch up soon"??? You already did it in your dreams... But in real life, forget about it...

I posted a stat some time ago: 40 thousands Vietnamese migrated to CN in the last 400 years or so, while in other direction millions of Chinese fled to Vietnam, in waves especially after the collapse of the Ming.
