Is it time for Pakistan to seriously start considering an ICBM ?

hmmm so if we develop the capability to launch satellites we can convert it into an ICBM on short notice right ?

Yes we can...would take 1-2 yrs...but its range would be around 4500km to 6500km...so it won't be of any use...

It takes many years even after launch of Satellite. India launched 1st satellite few decades back But now we are close to ICBM.

The main thing is Money. It's an expensive and exclusive stuff. Also, ICBM is symbolic power which one needs to develop as per growing Economy.

Agreed...it requires time,money and expertise.

Accuracy of an ICBM will be the most important issue. Even the US with decades of space launches had a failed ICBM test recently.

Of course...

That is why, while mentioning the CEP of a weapon...it is said the 50% of the warheads would fall in the target circle...meaning that any problem or malfunction could possibly arise, which may cause the warhead to deviate from its path.

Mr. T-Rex...you better mind your language

Russia and China have ICBMs as deterrent to a US/NATO attack..same goes for US,UK,France...

May I remind you that all of them are economically powerful and have stable governments...

I'll summarize my PoV:

1. We cannot make an ICBM (of 11,000km range) within the given time frame...neither do we have money nor the technological expertise.
2. Even if we start making one now,by the time we have it deployed the Ballistic Missile Defense Technology would be reaching its peak...so it will be of no use.
3. Given the present state of affairs, any intention like that will only worsen our image.
4. In case of an American attack (which is imminent in the next 2-3 yrs), Pakistan Army can easily take out the Military and Airforce bases of US/Nato in Afghanistan with SRBMs.

No, you're not telling the truth, matter of fact the USSR was not economically stable, but that is beside the point, we're talking about why they have ICBMs and why Pakistan should have them. You understand pretty well that they have them as deterrent but in case of Pakistan you start singing the indian song. One of the forum members have asked you if you work for the CIA and like him, I cannot figure out why you work for the CIA.

Again you're misguiding. Once a projectile reaches the earth's orbit it doesn't need any fuel, so the range is no longer an issue at that point. You're aim is to misguide your fellow Pakistanis, by hook or by crook, and this is just one more proof of that.

ICBM will be useless after 2016-2020.

US, Russia and Israel already have effective ABM shield. All 3 developing even 3rd Layer.
India ABM 3 layer shield will be deployed by 2014-2017.
China already announced ABM shield by 2020.

U.S. Developing ABM shield for Europe and It's allies like Australia, Canada, Sk, Japan, etc. in next 5-10 Years.

ICBM won't have major impact after 2017-2020. Only Middle-East Countries will be without ABM shield.

Yeah, the grapes are indeed sour! Isn't that what the wicked jackel said?

What Sour ??? ICBM is not big deal. We already have 5,000Km Covered and Surya (10,000-16,000 KM we are developing)........

ICBM will be of no use after 2020. Check the Facts......Check what Arrow-3, THAAD, AD-1,2 are meant for. May you don't know the concept of ABM technology. ABM technology is double expensive than ICBM.

Check -Arrow (missile)

Do more research on various types of ABM shields.

Even satellites need fuel to adjust their orbit. You just don't launch a parabolic projectile. The resistance of the atmosphere throws the projectile off course while exiting and re-entering the atmosphere. A millimeter offcourse up there means kilometers of the point of impact. You need to read up on this stuff.

If that was the case, why would there be a difference b/w a 5500km range ICBM and a 12,000km range ICBM?...and why would India develop Surya (10-16,000km) when they already are going to test Agni-V (6000km)?

If your statement is to be considered correct, then we we have already made an ICBM...

Patriotism is good but it should be based on Facts. Can someone explain to Mr. T-Rex. Ohh....He is from Bangladesh. :woot:

You didn't answer anything else except the economy issue...
