I am not denying the fact NATO induce this phenomenon which they certainly do however they are exploiting a weakness. With any game you will always take the advantage to capitalize. It is the nature of humans.

But is the root cause of insurgencies in Muslim countries as a result of a portion of society failing or unable to adapt to modern society??

Pakistan is a perfect example of this because the biggest clash between modern and conservatives is taking place. TTP are completely disgusted by the concept of a liberalized Pakistan and will go to extremes like killing children to preserve their control over tribal Pukhtoons and enforce Shariah throughout the country.

Is this is a process where these ultra orthodox Muslims are phased out and you cannot do anything about it? Would this process take 10-20 years?

Would TTP still be fighting in 2020? I think not and as the internet becomes more accessible the tribal areas will naturally turn to more normal hobbies such as studying or starting a business.

Pakistan needs to focus more on propaganda and outwit TTP. I don't understand why they do not just distribute laptops which are obviously monitored filled with Pak history/media/ideology, school curriculum etc in FATA and Afghanistan if possible??

I understand what you're saying and agree with it for the most part, but part of the problem is here in bold: The idea that Shariah and modernity can not coincide. That is simply not true. Of course, depends on your definition of modernity but for the most part, Islamic law is perfectly compatible with concepts such as electing a leader who must be accountable to the people (Democracy, basically), allowing others freedom of religion and speech, human rights, women's rights - all that can be done under the umbrella of Islam.

Mullahs, obviously, are Mullahs. They need to open their minds a bit, because majority of their rulings, fatwas and beliefs are not Islamic at all. The biggest example would be the blasphemy law - It directly contradicts the Quran (i've discussed before this in detail in this thread; don't want to go off-topic), which is the absolute highest authority in Islamic Law - yet the Mullahs insist on keeping it.

The problem we have here is that the extra-Liberal and 'westernized' minority tries to get rid of Sharia entirely instead of adapting it , creating even more problems because obviously, the conservative and religious majority doesn't like that. A very careful and refined approach could do wonders here.

I agree 100%, that is very important. The destruction of this narrative used by the terrorists should be a high priority, its the best way to eliminate recruits, sympathizers and possibly, indirectly, even reduce funding.

Destroy their lies about wanting Sharia, destroy their 'Takfir' (by using Islamic texts and sources to counter it) and destroy their false beliefs about Jihad by using mosques, maddrassas, school and colleges to educate people. That laptops idea may work , though i don't think its practical, in the more developed areas, Islamabad (around Lal Masjid especially), Lahore, Karachi - but for places like FATA, not a good idea. The people would not know how to use them and they'll just sell them and get a couple of AKs and TTs instead. We're talking about people who don't have electricity, basic education (never mind using a laptop) and sanitation. They need to be reached out to using more conventional means.

Islamic militancy is not the symptom;
ignorance and centuries of self servicing mullahs are the root cause.

The brutal and inhumane act of terror on the school in Peshawar has tested all limits. These enemies of peace must be dealt with an iron fist. The TTP and Daish have proven over and over that they go will go to any length to achieve their agenda. The evilness and immorality is reflected throughtheir terrorist activities on a regular basis. The indiscriminate killings, kidnappings, and suicide attacks are executed on a regular basis. Our nations have simply refused to bow down to their acts of terror, and our shared will and desire to defeat terrorism motivates us to push ahead with our peace mission. We stand with the nation of Pakistan during these testing times, and fully support their efforts to counter extremism and restore peace in the country.
