IceCold, if it is conclusively proven that LET was involved and the international agencies are convinced with the evidence, what do you think should happen?

It was a war on India! If the perpetrators are Pakistani citizens who may have acted independent of Pakistani government they become common enemy who need to be dealt with by both countries.

In that case war would be a choice for Pakistan to make, not India.

Are a bunch of JEM/LET terrorists worth going to war over? Why not simply incarcerate them, disband them for good, hand over the worst ones to India. They are Pakistan's enemies too. They are destroying your civil society if they have not already done that to a large extent.

Actually the groups that you guys have problems with are not the ones engaged with Pakistan Army.

First of all nothing is being proven, and this by the way is the propaganda that we are talking about. As i have said it before, if indeed there are poofs of Pakistan's involvement, then let the world know about it, let the world know that Pakistan and Pakistanis are terrorists, so that the world joins you in to bomb Pakistan back to stone age, but before that save the blame game for latter.

Zardari appeals India not to punish Pakistan

Updated at: 1749 PST, Monday, December 01, 2008
Zardari appeals India not to punish Pakistan ISLAMABAD: Pakistan President Asif Ali Zardari, made an urgent appeal to India yesterday not to punish his country for the terror unleashed on Mumbai last week, as Indian officials blamed a Pakistani militant group for the three-day rampage.

As the government in New Delhi faced mounting domestic pressure to respond forcefully to the attacks, Mr Zardari urged Manmohan Singh, India's prime minister, to resist striking out at his government should investigations show that Pakistani militant groups were responsible.

His appeal came as tensions rose between the two countries. A day after the security forces finally regained control of Mumbai, Indian officials blamed Lashkar-i-tayyaba, a prominent militant group linked to previous attacks against India. Its name translates as Army of the Pure.

Speaking to the Financial Times, President Zardari warned that provocation by rogue "non-state actors" posed the danger of a return to war between the nuclear-armed neighbours.

"Even if the militants are linked to Lashkar-i-tayyaba, who do you think we are fighting?" asked Mr Zardari, whose country is battling al-Qaeda and Taliban militants on its border with Afghanistan.

I said if it is proven and accepted by the international agencies. Also the assumption is that it was not an officially supported attack.

Do you think Pakistan should go to war over a bunch of terrorists?

Ok guys(for Pakistanis) there is something more important that we need to worry about, its not the Indian attack, but the way GOP is handling the issue and showing their sorry *** attitude.
One out of many reasons for failure in 71 was the leadership failure. What do you guys think, is history going to repeat itself this time around when at this time of the need, there is a very severe shortage of leadership in Pakistan, a leadership which lacks what it required, a tough stance.

Zardari should be more careful in choosing his words to address the issue! Articulate, saavy and well-read like a Bhutto would be he is NOT!

Do you think Pakistan should go to war over a bunch of terrorists?

So if its proven, then nothing is left behind, Pakistan will be exposed to the whole world, what more could India wish for, Pakistan alone in the international community and labeled as a rouge state who sponsors terrorism in the neighboring countries. Even China wont be able to help much in this regard, obviously they will have to adopt a tough stance against Pakistan as well.

I agree, I hope he realizes how much of a donkey he looks like groveling to India to show mercy. I've had it up to here with our sack of **** leadership.

Agreed but words don't matter alone, if they are not put to action, here this time around the GOP is lacking both.

A true leader shines in a crisis like this. Bhutto, yes. Musharraf, yes. Nawaz Sharif, maybe.

Zardari, Gillani, Rehman Malik, Shah Mehmood Qureshi etc etc have shown their colors and zero capability to handle the crisis of this nature. Retraction in the press statements of what was said, not-said to India shows more of mental impotence to deal with such a situation.

Manmohan Singh and the likes in India have not faired too well either by jumping the gun and putting the burden of their own intelligence failure and ill-preparedness on Pakistan.

Indians are doing what's best for their country every step of the way while our leadership is busy trying to pull it's head from it's *** quick enough. Bullying from America is accepted. Bullying from India now too? ****

Political words are designed to lead into action!

PPP leaders have lack of mental cohesion which is evident when they speak. Gillani babbles, Shah Memhmood Qureshi is robotic & incoherent, Rehman Malik is simply a certified idiot in a US$1000 suit! and Zardari is a wannabe who cannot be, sadly for us as a nation!

But at this stage we make do with what we have not with what we wished we had!

Washington (PTI): Terming the Mumbai terror attacks as an "opportunity" for India and Pakistan to jointly combat the threat of terrorism, US lawmakers have asked for greater American diplomatic efforts, including the possibility of sending a "negotiator" to the region.

"I'm confident that there is a good opportunity at this point for the Indians and the Pakistanis to understand that this group that probably caused this could cause harm to both of them," senior Republican on the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, Richard Lugar said on ABC News' This Week programme.

Asked if he favoured sending a high-level negotiator to the subcontinent to bring the two neighbours to cooperate on the issue of terrorism, Lugar said the current "situation underlines the need for diplomacy on our part."

"I would think that might be a good idea, something -- because, it appears to me, that we have an interlocking situation of Afghanistan, Pakistan and India," Lugar said when asked if he backed the idea for a high level negotiator.

He also agreed to the point that outbreak of hostility between India and Pakistan leading to diversion of the latters troops to its eastern frontier, will affect US operations in Afghanistan.

"Well, very much so, given Kashmir, given the fact that the dissident group that probably caused the attack arose from the Kashmir controversy with India... And so our presence there is going to be very important," Lugar said.

Democratic Senator from Rhode Island Jack Reed, who sits on the Senate Armed Services Committee, meanwhile said, India is looking for some tangible signs from the Pakistanis "not just rhetorical flourishes but tangible signs that they're going to take effective action".

Reed said while Islamabad's intelligence services have tried to distance themselves from Pakistan-based militant outfits, they should now more closely "collaborate and cooperate" with international forces to root them out.

"There is indication that the intelligence service (Pakistani) has been trying to distance themselves from these groups, many of which were their protegees, going back to the war against the Soviets. But that's not sufficient.

"They have to now be consciously and collaborate and cooperate with international forces to root these individuals out, preempt them, if they can," he said, suggesting that Pakistan share discourse on intelligence matters with India.

Contending that there was a significant shift in Pakistan's approach towards militancy, Reed said with changed political climate, Islamabad "recognises that these groups are a danger to themselves, and not just something that they can unleash against the Afghanis or the Indians".

"I think they've made a significant turn away from both active or, sort of, passive support for these groups, seeing that that's in their interests, a strategic, sort of, weapon that they have. I think the military, Kayani, the new chief of military, has been much more effective at doing that," the Democratic lawmaker said.

Advocating greater US diplomatic efforts in the region, Reed said President-elect Obama had himself suggested a comprehensive approach to the subcontinent.

"This is a diplomatic challenge... And Senator Obama in July... had said, we have to start thinking about not just Pakistan-Afghanistan but Pakistan, Afghanistan, and India, because these problems are interrelated," Reed added.

"I think we have to start as we are. FBI agents are there, on the ground; increased intelligence efforts; build this up. And if there's a strong indication, on both sides, that they're moving together, and that we can play a productive role," Reed said.
