Gripen NG - The new Gripen NG (Next Generation) will have many new parts and will be powered by the GE/Volvo Aero F414G, a development of the F/A-18E/F Super Hornet's engine. The engine will produce 20% more thrust at 98 kN (22,000 lbf), enabling a supercruise speed of Mach 1.1 with air-to-air missiles.

Operational capability:

Gripen NG has a fully integrated sensor suite with total weapon flexibility and is able to carry weapons sourced from suppliers worldwide. Survivability is assured through a balance between low radar, Infra-Red and visible signatures and a highly advanced modular Electronic Warfare and Self-Protection system.

Support solution:

The logistics concept is designed to meet the requirements of the Pakistan Air Force and makes maximum usage of existing Pakistan’s infrastructure.

The training programme utilizes the existing infra-structure together with synthetic training aids and the Gripen system in order to maximize the training benefit.

Partnership

Pakistan will become partner with the Sweden in the design, development and integration of future technology programmes for the Gripen NG. Early Pakistan involvement in the Gripen NG design and development will give the Pakistan Air Force and industry unrivalled access to all levels of technology now and for the future.

Offset:

The proposal will deliver Offset equal to the contract value. The Offset programme will transfer unique and advanced technologies and know-how to appropriate Pakistan’s industrial and institutional parties with the objective of developing national capabilities.

Production and Maintenance:

The commitment to Pakistan’s aerospace includes the option for manufacturing of Gripen NG parts and assemblies and Gripen NG Final assembly in Pakistan.

The maintenance concept is tailored to meet the requirements and
capabilities of the Pakistan’s Industry through - Establishment of a Gripen NG maintenance centre in Pakistan ensuring national autonomy and Extensive usage of existing Pakistan’s infrastructure securing cost savings and ensuring commonality.

Transfer of Technology:

The Transfer of Technology (ToT) programme will guarantee full involvement in future capability development and maximize Pakistan’s industrial autonomy through the transfer of unique and highly advanced competencies.

The Transfer of Technology will include - Design, development and integration of hardware, avionics, software and systems on the Gripen NG, Transfer of Advanced Technologies and key High-Tech competencies for example Sensor Fusion, Low-Observability (LO) and Stealth, Saab guarantees unrivalled access to all levels of technology, including full access to Gripen NG source codes.

Continued Enhancement:

Gripen Next Generation (NG) is a considerably enhanced version of the already proven and in-service Gripen C/D multi-role fighter. Designed for combat in the 21st Century Net Centric Warfare (NCW) environment Gripen’s flexible and modular design makes continuous development and enhancement both low risk and cost effective. The Gripen NG programme covers development of all major sensors and avionics including data communication, self-protection systems, weapons integration, as well as airframe and propulsion enhancements.

Operational dominance:

Pakistan’s airspace boundaries and its potential threats requires an air
defence and air combat fleet that will give it operational dominance along its borders with four countries and plus coastline over the next decades. The aircraft it requires should be able to deliver not only air power and air combat superiority but also logistical, multi-role and versatility in weapons and systems integration.

Although you will eventualy know that J-10B will be more credible and cost effective then Grippen NG n will serve PAF long term then Grippen NG.It will have those russian made latest engines that might enable it to supercruise but they might not or never disclose its capabilities like the SU-35's engines or SU-37's for export with TVC n its airframe has with J-10A and with J-10B will have greater capabilities for greater range and payload capacity which is superior than Grippen NG
Cost of J-10B: $41 Million (with parts and maintainence)

In all due respect a silly thread we are not getting grippen second our f-16's are going through or almost done through there mlu/upgrade phase second we are hoping and looking forward towards our new blk 52's f-16's we like the f-16's we know the f-16's and we need the f-16's and they are here to stay so therefore its end of story jf-17's , fc 20's f-16 mlu's and blk 52's so end of the chapter plzz do read up.

i think the people who start this kind of thread should first go through earlier thread. Almost every other day there is a thread entitled "Is Gripen, Rafale or something else be better choice for pakistan?" appears. One should understand what's the need of PAF in current scenario that justify pakistan's economic condition too? Pakistan is going for JF-17 so that it can match india's numeric superiority as pakistan can not afford gripen or other high end platform in present economic condition. May be in future if economy do better they can look for these birdies and at the same time pakistan have cleared they can not handle the technology that gripen offers. It has discussed thousand's of time earlier. So plz do some research before starting this kinda thread.

No thats not the case, We do have the money but we can't buy anything without the permission of USA. So What if we change oue fleet to Gripen the American's will still have a upper hand the engine in it can give us problems.
I am not going to disclose my contact but looks like the Americans are **** scared to J-10B and have put the fighter at the top with F-22, F-15, Eurofighter, J-11, Super Hornet, Su-30+ which is quite interesting makes me wounder what the Chinese are hiding under the sheet which is making Uncle Sam so nervous. That means we will have an order for more than 50.

I think with the J10B they just see that they no longer have everything to say in the military arena and that even the generation after the J10B is pretty sure to be atleast in the same league as F22... The Chinese have the cash, manpower and technology to be a sole superpower in the next 5 years.

The fact is that China is now economical superpower. US ruined its economy and it made China a tiger. And with the speed of military improvements there is no longer guarantee for the USA to dictate. China is near to oil fields. It has passes western arrogance in Africa. Now it has a strong foot in Asia (Sri Lanka, BD, Pakistan, Iran)... Time is running out.

China has offered to join international space program, US ignored them. China showed it did not need them. China wanted Israeli AWACS. US destroyed the deal. Now China has mulitple AWACS programs. China wanted a cheap F16. US destroyed Super Sabre. Now JF17 has even faster DSI then the pig called JSF. China wanted to join GPS. US disagreed and wanted to control the data. China has now its own GPS system.... Sofar China wanted to be partner and the US was acting stupid. They harassed China's coast and now China is building a high tech navy that fast that it will make an impact...

The J-10 is nowhere in the same league as the F-22. It is at best an improved F-16. The Raptor will detect the J-10 long before the J-10 pilot is aware he has been targeted.

J10 is not in the league of Euro canards & indeed the F22/JSF..

China has come a long way on Aero engineering from building simple 1Q5 F6 F7 mig21 type fighters TO wat appear to be 4 GENERATION fighters with the J10 in particular not looking outdated in same room as F16 OR Typhoon.

But their aweaknesses in Radar engine and weapons tech where china lags behind the West & indeed Russia.

The chineaase will catch up in the next decade or so ..

FOR PAF J10 makes perfect sense alongside JF17.

The euro fighterr will only add marginally superioity over the J10 the field of engine and radar/weapons but china will catch up by 2020

I'm not sure Gripen would be capable of taking on the SU-30MKI in the BVR arena. It has the capacity, but then your stuck with the supply problem. Only AMRAAM or MICA has been fired from Gripen, yes? In the future, air superiority will be won with AWACS type platforms directing BVR shots as was the case in the Bekaa valley in 82' and Iraq in 91'. Price is always going to be a problem for the PAF, but what can be done about that? If the PAF is going to meet the IAF on a somewhat equal footing, then the money will have to be spent. Is Sweden a more reliable source?
