I know, Visualpolitic channel is not the most reliable source of information out there. But the video still raises some interesting points.

Opinions?

One particular point the video talked about was the following: between 2011 and 2017, Egypt saw a sharp decline in numbers of young people attending prayers regularly. This is in tandem with an explosion in the numbers of atheists. Also, recent polls show a tremendous drop in the popular support for sharia law, from around 80% in 2010/2011 to only 35% in 2016.

Last but not least, thousands of mosques have been closed down since 2013. With the majority of mosques coming under direct supervision by state religious authorities and surveillance by security forces.

Only the government but the people are not
This has always been a problem since the days of Mubarak. But you can tell there has been quite a radical change in the recent years. More women are taking off the hijab, mosques seeing less regular attendants. And the high numbers of people coming out as atheists on social media and even TV shows. There is definitely a change.

I'm aware of that.. what is happening now is just the start in trying to reverse the trend of the last 40 years and hopefully repairing the damage that was caused by islamist stranglehold on the Egyptian way of life.

:smitten: Egypt has always been a Islamic country but some folks like to twist the story :dance3:

I am sure soon folks will demand a south Sudan like state in Egypt

Quite the opposite is true. Under Sisi, Egypt is becoming more and more religious & radical. This is a really funny development considering the fact that the West is still supporting him because he is a "secular" "leader".

The day egyptian girls can be seen "outside their homes" and the day egyptian women don't wear all covering clothes at airports, is the day they will become secular.

More than religion egyptians in Egypt have a different mentality, first that has to change.

Maybe in 100 years?

Good for Egypt. Less religious primitivism leads to more progress.
