Is China very poor?

First World = NATO
Second World = Warsaw PACT
Third World = Non Aligned Nations

This is the now defunct definition of the original world order. First world does not mean rich and third world poor.

What you said is absolutely not true. They basically based their ranking on technological advances, democracy and then you can include wealth. Greece is an example that wealth is not a factor

OH, our school book said that China would be a developing county until 2050, we planed to step in developed county in 2050

Some parts of China are very poor, according to senior government development official Zheng Wenkai over 82 million Chinese still live on less than about US$1.25 a day. In some regions, houses are made of clay, children study in dark classrooms and villagers have no clean water. Many young people from remote areas chose to work in bigger cities, left their children alone with their grandparents.

In contrast, some parts of China are rich with an estimated 2.4 million millionaires households. People live in houses worth of millions of dollars, drive expensive cars and travel constantly…

But 82 million is 5.88% of China's 1.4Bn population. Are you just trying to magnify something(poverty)that the Chinese govt has obviously worked on reducing. I think you're being too alarmist here. You actually showed that the poverty rate is low in China.

That 82M is EXTREME poverty (about < US$1.90 a day). There's still 100's of millions in poverty. China's goal was to pull their country out of EXTREME poverty not poverty.

Where and when were those photos taken and where is the source? If I post some photos of some dirty smelly homeless people living under a bridge and claim US is so poor, does it make any sense?

@Hamartia Antidote

You opened a thread on a Quora response? I suggest you make a more informed case with better sources.

Only after 10 ridiculous Quora threads by Chinese posters that were never tossed out as being from a non-reliable source.

Note my initial "since "quora" is suddenly a reliable fact site..."
