Is China tired of unrest in Hong Kong?
No.

Actually the unrest in Hong Kong is very good for the Chinese government and Party Central, because it helps to reinforce their message that western-supported freedom and democracy are just a plot to destabilize China, and make China poor, weak and divided again, just as it was pre-1949, before the founding of the People’s Republic and New China, and before the Chinese Communist Party came to rule China and made it strong and united again.

From Party Central’s point of view, the longer the HK unrest lasts, the more help it brings in educating Chinese about western tactics to make China weak again. For many Chinese, this parallels the Opium Wars, when the western powers forced China to open up on western, not Chinese, terms and ushered in the Century of Humiliation. Moreover, there is no chance that the HK unrest will spill over into China because Chinese who side with the west would be seen and treated as traitors by almost all Chinese.

Before, many Chinese felt that the Chinese official media lied to them. Now, with the HK unrest, many have come around to the view that the Chinese government was telling them the truth all along. The end result is that now Chinese are more nationalist than ever.

Hong Kong’s tragedy is that it is in everyone’s interest to burn it to the ground.

  • For the US: It shows that China does not care about the people of Hong Kong and their call for freedom and democracy;
  • For Joshua Wong: It makes him Jesus for Hong Kong freedom and democracy;
  • For China: It shows that western powers will stop at nothing to stop China’s increasing influence on the world stage;
  • For Donald Trump: Hong Kong burning shifts US domestic attention away from impeachment, and to make Americans aware of the China threat;
  • For US Republicans: It makes their base rally around Trump and Republicans in the elections;
  • For US Democrats: It makes Americans aware of the China threat;
  • For Hong Kong rioters: “I just like to watch things burn.”

Why would citizens of Hong Kong like that ?

just my humble thought. Hong Kong needs to be a bastion for western democracy, making sure the support for hong kong stays afloat will force the CCP to to spent more on time and resource for internal dissent.

Doesn't work that way, because 1C2S policy means that the two systems are insulated. When HK catches fire, mainland doesn't. But it does mean that in an atmosphere of rising social tensions, more Indon maids get abused by frustrated HK employers, and even send home smaller remittances :cry:

Hong Kong people has too much pride and despise mainland chinese. Best to let them rot in their riot and freedom.

They will be meek the day China surpass Hong Kong overwhelmingly in incomem

Those HK rioters never fight for democracy, otherwise there would be no beating, burning and killing. If they were able to take the control of the city, they would be just another tyranny in the pretext of democracy. The worst were not those brainless rioters but those highly educated or (middle class and elites) who behind, supported and harboured those rioters in order to achieve their own agenda without paying any consequence.

.
According to Chinese sources, Li Ka Shing is behind the riot.

Li could be a spy of UK or UK proxy. Li made his bone due to inexplicable support from HSBC.

Knowing the imminent handover of HK to China, it would be pay back for UK's racist policy in precluding Chinese from the lucrative economics activities. The handover could result to confiscation of UK asset.

Then UK hand many asset to Li Ka Shing, and HSBC was asked to finance Li.

Li may be helping UK interest to hold the asset on their behalf in HK.

Li should be trialed for treason.

It's just a group of young nihilistic extremists, mostly in their teens, who are taking advantage of the protests to foment chaos.

HKers are more racist and hateful towards foreigners from my experience than Mainlanders.

Hong Kong isn't an example of a successful democracy. It's basically a combination of mob mentality and the irrationality of the Cultural Revolution and nativist hostility towards Mainlanders. I've traveled to many places in the greater China region and Hong Kong is one of my least favorite places, very cramped, run down, depressing, the average person is struggling, it feels like a cross between Blade Runner and a giant filthy Chinatown.

Go across the border to Shenzhen, Dongguan, Guangzhou and the living standards are much nicer and they are living in broad spaces, manicured greenery, shining modernity in comparison to Hong Kong.

This American guy works as an English teacher in Dongguan, a city in between Shenzhen and Guangzhou. The surroundings and living environment are 100X better than living in Hong Kong.

Go to Hong Kong, there are plenty.

Last year I thought I would witness the west in a mess in ten years, but now it comes too early.

They screw up their political system, economy, more importantly imported 3rd grade culture, and mess up their identity.

I called it fanaticism.

We as Chinese knew our history, and history always repeat herself.
