i dont agree with the topic , because countries interested in jf 17 just due to cost factor .
I mean if a nation can afford Lockheed Martin/Dassult/MIG/Sukohi will never go for Chinese product.

May be u dont know that Chinees products are of three qualitites.....People in Pakistan and India never experienced the high quality Chinees products.

There are number of Chinees high quality products available in USA, Canada, UK, Australia etc....People prefer Chinees products coz they are of same quality then the western products but with the low price. Thats the huge threat to the world.

Now coming to JF-17 ........JF-17 is 4th generation AC and can be compared to any 4th Generation AC. And yes no compomise on QUALITY

Here are the 4th Generation specs which are available in JF-17, Mirage 2K, Mig 29, F-16's etc.

SPECS required for 4th G Fighter Air Crafts.

1) BVR Capabale
2) Support of Long Range Air to AIR weapons
3) New Manuvers for Dog Fight.
4) "fly-by-wire" (FBW) or flight control system (FLCS) System
5) Long Range Radars (Radar Range <~100KM)
6) New generation Avionics

Now coming to the topic...........
Yes China is the threat for western Countries in the products but not in the Aviation Industry.

They are still far behind to design Advance Air Crafts like F-22, F-35, F-16 Block 60, Eurofighter, Rafeal etc
But they have potential to become a threat.

I feel they are more threat to Russian Aviation then the Western Aviation
May be some one have ssen performance of Mig 19 VS F-5.
and
Mig 21 Vs F-7
Also chk out the number of crashes Mig 19 and 21 had. Thats the Symbol of Quality China have.

According to your logic then India is also a THREAT to the world because her economy is growing and she is also pouring lots of capital into cranking out "indigenous" stuff.

china is quantity over quality. I am also surprised when China does not reveal the real/true capabilities of the weapons that she develops. Their is always a veil of secrecy over china 's weapons. If China actually produces weapons comparable to west why not reveal its capabilities as the weapons come at a cheap price and many more countries will be interested in buying them over the expensive western equipment.
Only countries that buy chinese weapons are the counries which have little cash .eg Pakistan,Algeria,other African countries etc .Why does countries like UAEetc who have money never go chinese weapons .I think it is because they cannot match the west capabilities and reliability.

I won't call Saudi Arabia, Venezuela and Kuwait countries that have little money.

I think it is India's weapons that can't match the quality of weapons that the West can produce.

Yes, China is a Growing power, Not only in Aviation, with this pace, Yes China is an emerging threat to The World Aviation Industries.... Look at J-10 and J-15, its a capable fighter but 2-3 times cheaper than Aircrafts in Its class....

China Would certainly be a Nightmare for Other dealers
