Is Bangladesh becoming a Russian proxy state?

The Indians are allowing the Russians in to keep Uncle Sam out. Russia has an interest in access to the Indian Ocean. They can't do that through Pakistan so why not BD.

The Ruskies dont need Bal to access the warm waters of Bangladesh.

. .
But they need India to agree .....
This is far fetched. Indians are reluctant to open a land route with China. Russians already have the Black Sea and seeking to use the port of Bangladesh is quite difficult for that the Indians and chinese need to have better relations or a possible route through
Myanmar and china, which also seem unlikely. Even at the height of the soviet empire, the soviets didnt ask for any route.

Who is talking about a land route? See my previous comment #80.

What good would a civilian port do to russian if it doesnt have a land route?

Better than having neither ...... The US uses hundreds of civilian ports around the globe but doesn't have a land route with the majority of them.

No its just to put down people with big mouths like you who do not appear to have any discernible background but talk as if you know something.

Like Captain Planet and Iajdani you have come here with an agenda and pose as an expert but appear to have no experience or knowledge of the subjects you discuss.

Typical Indian response .....

Munshi Bhai, he seems like a BDMilitary’s fraudster to me, who cleverly rationalizes his point of views and tries to steal the show. Having such tendency has to have ill motive, which is also evident as 'Show off' of way more patriotism than necessary one in his posts.

Now, coming to the core of the topic, I see the return of the old Sovietizes in the form of Ruskies in our Sub-continent. By empowering dalal PPPIETE, AWAMYS AND KHARAZI first; Bharatis prepared the ground for it and Commies are getting ready for the final push to check mate their old foe. Chanakyaism Zindabad! Dada Commie Zindabad too!!

Every socialist i have ever met in my life are twisted to the core. When they try business they become dalals and when they try politics they become authoritarian in nature. I suggest all socialists in Bangladesh be put in a big boat and let it sail, followed by our navy using our c802s to sink the boat. One socialist is too many for a nation.

PDF is a good place to learn, discuss and have a bit of fun but not to use to promote a book or to try and make Bangladesh a colony of Pakistan again...lol.

1. During the War of Liberation, the Soviet Union was our key supporter. In the initial days Comrade Moni Singh accompanied by NAP's Mozaffar Ahmed and Abdus Salam traveled to Moscow to convince the Politburo to help us. Only after their nod was Indira willing to hep us. And the Indo-Soviet Friendship Treaty, etc followed. The Eastern Bloc was also our main source of weapons. We fought with Czechoslovakian weapons mostly. Medical treatment of our grievously wounded was provided by GDR.

2. The Soviet leadership had been charmed by Sheikh who had made an extended state visit to USSR. One of the reasons for switching to BAKSAL was to establish a direct BD-Soviet link cutting out India.

BD mulls signing 13 deals during PM's Russia visit

Hasina to seek apparel items' duty-free access

Bangladesh is moving forward to sign 13 agreements and memoranda of understanding (MoUs) during Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's Russia visit next month, aiming to boost bilateral trade and other cooperation, sources said.

Drafts of most of the agreements and MoUs are at different stages of finalisation, they added.

Sources said during her visit the Prime Minister will seek duty-free access of Bangladeshi apparel items to the Russian Federation. Besides, she will seek Russian assistance in providing technical support for telecommunication sector and satellite launching as well as in importing wheat and fertiliser from there.

The two sides are scheduled to sign agreements on cooperation in promotion and protection of investments, extension of a state export credit for financing the preparatory stage of nuclear power plant construction in Bangladesh, and extension of credit for purchase of defence equipment.

Besides, signing of agreements on cooperation in establishing a nuclear industry information centre in Bangladesh, and visa-free visit for holders of diplomatic and service (official) passports are also on the list.

Sources said the two nations are also mulling signing of MoUs on collaboration in combating terrorism, and in the fields of education, agriculture, wheat trade, healthcare and medical sciences, and cultural exchange.

MoUs between Petrobangla and Gazprom, and law and justice ministries of the two countries are also likely to be signed.

Last year, Bangladesh signed an agreement with Russia for setting up a nuclear power plant having a generation capacity of 2,000 megawatts of electricity. Russia assured Bangladesh in principle to fund the project cost. Some US$ 2.0 billion will be required to build a nuclear plant with a capacity of generating 1,000 mw of electricity.

Bangladesh's cabinet in January approved engaging Russian company Gazprom in drilling 10 gas wells, which has already started civil works for the same.

Bilateral trade between the nations is still very meagre with annual trade remaining below $300 million, though some Bangladeshi items, including jute and jute goods, shrimps, tea, silk, and rice, enjoy tariff preference in the Russian market.
