Hi all,
I was wondering about how much seriousness there is in the Hindu/Indian political and social circles to materialize the goal of a greater India comprising Pakistan,India and Bangladesh.
Is this whole idea even considered a legitimate ideological and political goal among the masses for which they must aspire,desire,pray and strive towards or is it just an over blown ambition of an extremist few ?
What about the modern Indian mindset ? Is this idea of any importance or is it considered a whimsical ambition of a crazy people of ancient mind set ?
It would be interesting to know.

No, there is no possibility of above mention idiocy.

There is the far right everywhere , no need to pay heed to them. But IMHO an undivided India would make everyone piss their pants . Just think of India , Pakistan ,Bangladesh and Nepal coming together.
In order to achieve this we should stop the religious hegemony.

India has 15% muslims. A part this segment may have some memories of United/Greater Hindustan under Mughal rule and may be inclined to a political union.

When it comes to others, there is zero interest in having any political union either with Pakistan or Bangladesh. The only thing most of the people desire is normal relations with the neighbors and have some kind of economic union under SAARC frame work. That's it. Don't get exited or agitated reading such news from time to time. Most of the time the concept of Akhand Bharat as an economic union is misunderstood as a political union.

I do not think far right is in favor of political union. That would be a suicide.

Akhand Bharat is as much a Ideological theory as Two nation theory....At the time of Partition there were two theories floating...one that said India Should be divided because Hindus and Muslims can not stay together.. and the other said that there is not need to divide India...Its a point of view.. you may agree with any one of them.

There is no Akhand Bharat dream in India, NO modern Indian ever dreams about uniting with Bangladesh or Pakistan. We already have enough people in India preaching moral policing and we don't want more people to tell us to not love a girl rather love a cow or a pig.:sick:

True but there are some differences in the way various stake holders approached them

Akhand Bharat (Undivided India)
============================
Congress Party supported it as it thought that Secular India would provide equal opportunities to people from all religions

Right wing Muslim parties supported it as they wanted to return back to the lost glory of Mughal India. Muslims were already sizeable population (9.5 crores out of 39 crores) and had hoped that with time Muslims would be a majority. Also in a muti-party democracy 25% votershare is decent enough.

Two-Nation Theory
==========================
Muslim League supported it. Jinnah was worried Muslims would loose political power under a united Indian where Hindus were a majority. Hence he favored a separated country for Muslims of India

Right wing Hindu parties supported it as they were worried that Hindus would loose power to Muslims of India and the return of Mughal tyranny(Re: Aurangzeb) .

Is a Sanghi a certain kind of fruit?

Yes. It's Orange.

who in sane mind would think of it ?

Yes its possible .

Back in those days when Akhand Bharat was a reality , What was happening ???

01 Trade
02 Movement of People
03 Cultural exchange etc

In the modern time , where Nations states exist , Union of different sovereign Nations into one nation ( and that too of enemy nations ) is not possible . But the above said points if occur in reality under modern conditions , then we can call it Akhand Bharat ( A Pseudo one though )
