We know the only way to restart the economy would be for a major global conflict to occur. Wartime production with 99% employment, half the population dying, then the victors would be in a golden age. History repeats itself...

In times of economic crisis, if history taught us anything, there will be a resurgence of nationalism and far right popularity will skyrocket for obvious reasons so it's going to be inevitable that there will be social unrest, decline of globalism and Sinophobia will be on the rise. History repeats itself...

We also know that in times of crisis like this gives rulers the excuse to start a war to distract the population from internal problems (mass unemployment, food shortage etc). With all the boogeyman we have today from South America, Middle East, Russia to the Philippines, they can magically take away everyone's problem via military draft and make them focus on the enemy and their asset/resources. History repeats itself...

You can see there is a massive effort placed on blaming China lately, demanding reparations, criticizing everything they did (like buying masks from western countries and causing shortages when we needed them to contain a pandemic before it became a pandemic) and the West's obvious emphasis on economy over people's lives.

Then, you have China doing the same blaming US and Europe and recovering like they're waiting for the moment to seize the Asia Pacific (or the South China Sea to them) when the West descend into chaos.

Cold war between US and China has already been going on. I doubt there will be real military conflict between the two. Any way, China will continuously weaken Western world economy in the future. In the past, Japan did the same but US can force Japan to raise the value of their currency. This lead to Japan massive investment in South East Asia region, particularly for Indonesia, Thailand, and Malaysia.

They cannot do the same with China, but China still got pressured not to devalue their currency. And as US has started trade war with China during Trump administration, this will lead to multinational companies avoiding China, and big Chinese companies that rely on export start relocating their factories, and some companies will expand their business outside China. Once again, it can benefit South East Asia.

The West will still be happy with this condition although much of the manufacturing will not come back to their region, it is because their goal to slow China economic growth is reached and the supply chain is not depend too much on China anymore.

Trump may think that way but I could tell you one thing bringing manufacturing back will come from the same businesses linked to CCP and Chinese state already in the midwest Chinese factory owners have open shop CRRC the rail car manufacturer has opened shop outside of Boston but it comes with a price all of this will come with Chinese labor, Chinese experts and perhaps more of the same taking "tech" back as usual really

Bring it on. China has plenty of friends and business partners these days. This isn't some 19th century colonial expedition to the uncharted orient. If anyone wants war with China, they will have to declare war on their own economies and commit economic hara kiri first. We've seen what a viral outbreak does to supposed civilised societies. Imagine the inflation and panicked money printing if war on China was declared. China wouldn't even have to lift a finger as mobs destroy Europe and USA for them.
