TEHRAN (FNA)- The Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) Ground Force on Saturday started a series of military exercises in Iran's Eastern regions.


Commander of the IRGC Ground Force Brigadier General Mohammad Pakpour said that the main phase of the drills, codenamed as Shohaday-e Vahdat (Martyrs of Unity), will start in Khaf general zone, East of Iran, on Monday.

Pakpour stated that the wargames are aimed at boosting security along the Iranian borders and are part of the IRGC ground forces' routine drills staged to maintain and boost combat preparedness of the IRGC units.

The commander also mentioned that exercising tactical strategies and asymmetric tactics of the IRGC combat units is among other objectives of the drills.

Earlier this month, Iranian Defense Minister Brigadier General Ahmad Vahidi announced the IRGC will soon stage its most massive naval exercises in Iran's Southern waters in the near future.

The IRGC's new drills came less than a week after Iranian Navy wrapped up its 10-day naval drills in the international waters in the Sea of Oman and the Indian Ocean.

IRGC ground troops begin war games in east Iran
TEHRAN, Jan. 7 (MNA) – The ground troops of the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps started the preliminary stage of the war games, entitled Martyrs to Unity, in east Iran on Saturday.

The main stage of the maneuvers will begin on Monday, IRGC Ground Forces Commander Mohammad Pakpour said.

He said that IRGC forces will display their military capabilities during the drills, adding that the latest achievements of the IRGC Ground Forces will also be unveiled.

He went on to say that the purposes of the war games are to enhance the capabilities of IRGC ground troops and combat units and increase security at Iran’s borders.

IRGC forces will also practice the tactics of asymmetric warfare, Brigadier General Pakpour said.

The IRGC Naval Force also announced on Thursday that it will stage the naval war games, entitled Payambar-e-Azam (the Great Prophet), in the Persian Gulf and the Strait of Hormuz in late January.

IRGC Forces Exercise Asymmetric Tactics on Second Day of Drills


TEHRAN (FNA)- The Ground Force units of the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) exercised asymmetric tactics on the second day of their wargames in Eastern Iran on Sunday, spokesman of the drills said.


The IRGC Ground Force on Saturday started a series of military exercises, codenamed "Shohaday-e Vahdat (Martyrs of Unity)", in Khaf general zone, East of Iran.

"At this stage of the wargames, part of the special and professional units of the IRGC ground force successfully displayed asymmetric warfare tactics and techniques with full coordination and preparedness," General Hamid Sarkheili, the spokesman of Shohaday-e Vehdar wargames, said.

He added that the IRGC's cavalry units exercised new asymmetric warfare tactics in the initial phase of the drills today.

"The armored and mechanized units of the IRGC Ground Force expanded the depth of their operation(al zone) through exercising new asymmetric warfare tactics and relying on mobile firepower, iron-shield and secure and impenetrable communications and then destroyed the hypothetical enemy," the spokesman said, elaborating on the details of today's drills.

Sarkheili noted that part of the IRGC new equipments and modern warfare tactics will be tested in the drills, adding that the main phase of the wargames will be conducted on Monday.
