Looking at Iraqi Army composition of divisions; interestingly having 3-5 fighting arms Brigades. PA raises new Divs but doesn’t add more brigades to existing divisions. Swelled up armoured divisions will pack a good punch but attaching regiments during war is an old gimmick. More brigades would lead to adding extra artillery, AD, logistics, ordinance, engineers and this is where the debate will come to a rest.
The IABGs should deploy and operate independently of Armored Divs but PA will join both and narrow down Corps HQ strategic options. The Mech Divs are derived from Corps assets in wartime, which is suitable for organisational command and control but again the Corps HQ loses flexibility.
