Iraq to buy arms from Pakistan

ISLAMABAD: A former Pakistani army general has claimed Iraq wants to buy arms and ammunition from Pakistan.

Israr Ghumman had met with a five-member defense delegation in Pakistan.

“We are already supplying Iraq with armored M-113-P personnel cars and Talah to the Iraqi armed forces,” he told Arab News. “Now the Iraqi Army wants to buy different caliber ammunition including mortars from Pakistan.”

The delegation, headed by the director of the Iraqi Army’s training and evaluation wing, Maj. Gen. Abbas Fizza, is currently in Pakistan to explore areas where the two countries can cooperate with each other in areas of defense.

Officials say that the possibility of Iraqi servicemen receiving army and naval training was also discussed.

It is time that we get some business from our Arab brothers recognising us the sophisticated country to supply them Arms. Now we need to get them to get our Engineers and educators to help them in th field of education and industry.

Great news, this will also help strength bilateral relationship!

Awsome news i sure hope our arms export rises .

good to hear that our defence exports market is expanding with more countries showing interest in our defence products.

In the next few years Iraq would be asking for a lot of weapons. It's good if we can impress them now and exert ourselfe into their markets. There will be stiff competetion waiting for US.

They should purchase MG3/G3/MP5 ToT off us too, we can help set up their ordnance factories as well. Same goes for type 69 rpg clones. Hell they should be encouraged to buy Baktar Shikan, JF-17, Karakorum trainers, Al Khalid tanks to add to their Abrams. The funds from such acquisitions must not end up in the pockets of looters for any of this to be effective. Might as well give things away next time. We need to upgrade badly in the infantry level, let's help the foot soldiers of Pak Army.

Pakistan's defense exports are about $300 million a year driven by the quality of its ammunition, anti-tank guided missiles, rocket launchers and shoulder-fired surface-to-air missiles. Exports to South Asian, Middle Eastern and African countries have increased significantly. It has been reported that Sri Lanka purchased cluster bombs, deep penetration bombs and rockets and Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAV) from Pakistan which it used to defeat LTTE.
