Iraq seeks French drones and jets, additional Russian tanks

Iraq is unstable hence no purchase will come thru it can fall into the hands of ka'tib or ISIS to many terrorists can undermine gov't and these weapons falling to them.. Hence that is why the US doesn't allow other to sell to them same case in Afg once it gets rid of these militias it will have geninue offers..

US supply convoys are targetted everyday in Iraq with IED including embassy is regular targetted and on fire

That's the point of weapons, to use them

Even Saudi tanks and Turkish leopard tanks fell in the hands of houthis and isis

West spent a fortune with the war on ISIS, last thing they want is a repeat. They will sell weapons. You must finance them for us if you were more Arab.

We would assist ofcourse but it would be hard to convinve the US-NATO sellers when they are under attack constantly in Iraq.. The Iraqi gov't really needs to tackle this internal security issues

I don't think US/NATO gave up on Iraqi gov, if they did they would've during ISIS. They pinned their hopes on the gov to maintain a level of stability and prevent another ISIS

Selling weapons isn't the problem. The problem is the Iraqi government and its constitution which favored Kurds in its founding.

In the end what would be great is to raid Kurdistan, then force them to go independent. Getting rid of Kurds is great, but first take some lands from them.

Iraq should go for jf-17 instead. For the price of 1 rafale Iraq can buy 6 jf-17 block 3.
Iraq’s main enemy is isis. You don’t need rafale’s to fight isis. Iraqs other enemies might be Iran. Iran barely has a airforce so jf-17 is enough for them. Buying rafale would be a waste of money for Iraq when it can buy 6x the number of jf-17’s with same price.

Maybe

There aren't any real air enemies, it's just needed to enforce airspace control

That could be done with a cheaper fighter like jf-17 which Iraq can induct in massive numbers. Daesh and other terrorist groups will fear 6 jf-17’s flying over a area more then 1 rafale. Even in the air if the enemy has 1 rafale and you have 6 jf-17 you will win because you have far greater number.
Rafale is overall for Iraq and much much much more expensive to buy and maintain then a jf-17.

And Pakistan would be willing to give Iraq the best air to ground and air to air packages. France might not

You're probably right

Iraq is going for both.. Rafale in small numbers ( around 14 as a spearhead) and JF-17 BLK III most likely in bigger numbers..

going by that logic they might as well just buy Chinese drones to take out ISIS if all you care about is cost.

now is ISIS tomorrow is turkey iran and israel and the rafale is more capable and more reliable and iraq already purchased 10-15 jf17 from what i recall or their still in discussions

exactly if you want to bomb ground targets just buy chinese drones, no need for an expensive fighter to pop 2 people with a pickup truck, i think this deal is more about rebuilding the airforce and ensuring airspace control
