Kish (Persian: کیش‎‎ listen ) is a 91.5-square-kilometre (35.3 sq mi) resort island in the Persian Gulf. It is part of the Bandar Lengeh County in Hormozgān Province of Iran. Owing to its free trade zone status it is touted as a consumer's paradise, with numerous malls, shopping centres, tourist attractions, and resort hotels.[1] It has an estimated population of 26,000 residents and about 1 million people visit the island annually.

Kish Island was ranked among the world’s 10 most beautiful islands by The New York Times in 2010, and is the fourth most visited vacation destination in Southwest Asia. Nationals wishing to enter Kish Free Zone from legal ports are not required to obtain visas prior to travel. Valid travel permits are stamped for 14 days by airport and Kish port police officials.

I have been there when I was little. Its a beautiful place. Perhaps the only thing keeping (mostly western) tourists from its blue beaches is the compulsion to wear hijab and draconian laws. Religion shouldn't be imposed at the point of the sword. It loses its purpose. People freely accept and profess religion. Unfortunate that such a beautiful land is off limits to a lot of people. For a tourism industry to flourish some laws and rules will need to be changed.

Nudity is natural..Hijab is man made..without modern textile innovation...there would be no hijab..

I am not arguing for nude beaches as it is going over the line. But for freedom of attire. If western women want to wear bikini there can be beaches specifically for them cut off from the rest of Iran. If this is going too far for Iran though they can demand honorable dress there though I don't think it is right to impose hijab by force.

I am a proponent of all sorts of human freedoms. Hijab is neither compulsory in Islam nor is use of force to impose modest attire. Freedom should truimph.

I think it is not good to divert this thread to a none related matter.

In Iran women at beaches can also swim but behind curtains.

Though GOD didn't cover our bodies with hair or fleece, but he gave us the brain.

I'm betting against this naturist theory in winter.

This Iranian entrepreneur has created a mini Persepolis with this 5 star themed hotel. This alone drives a lot of Iranians to visit Kish island to have a look.

Halal tourism is a subcategory of tourism which is geared towards Muslim families who abide by rules of Islam. The hotels in such destinations do not serve alcohol and have separate swimming pools and spa facilities for men and women.

President Rouhani made the remarks on Thursday eveningin a meeting with the officials at Anzali Free Trade and Industrial Zone.

Free trade and industrial zones should regard production and creation of job opportunities as the main goal of their activities this year, he said.

The government aims to turn FTZs to an export hub instead of a center for imports of luxury products, the president said.

Shipping lines play a very strategic role in connecting the country’s free trade zones in the south to free waters which is vital for promotion of economic and industrial zones in the south, he said.

Iran’s shores should be regarded as God-given blessings, he said.

The role of FTZs is promotion of economic diplomacy, politics and commerce with the neighboring states, President Rouhani said.

Investment inside and outside such zones, expansion of scientific relations and attracting tourists should be regarded as the main characteristics of the FTZs, he said.

Unity among religions in the country’s FTZs should be also heeded, underlined President Rouhani.

The Shia population is approximately around 200 million. Nearly half of those reside in Iran, who on earth is the demographic that he's trying to attract when talking about 'halal tourism'?

The Shias I've met have do not prioritise muslim countries over non-muslim countries when it comes to travel destinations. Surely he's not stupid enough to think the non-shia muslims living in the region are going to visit and choose Iran instead of Turkey, Dubai, Morocco etc. Those that do come are most likely educated and come just as any other tourist from around the world rather than for any 'Islamic' purpose.

Sharma Al Sheikh has been hit heavily since the Metrojet Terror Attack. Iran should look to capitalise on new found ties with Russia to offer the Kish as an alternative and safe destination for Russian tourists. Educating locals in the Russian language to help cater to them. The same should be done with regards to British and Chinese tourists.

Iran should keep religious regulations confined to two cities, Qom and Mashad. For over 10+ years I've heard about Kish and it's still irrelevant as ever. By some heavy marketing and positive branding I'm sure many would feel encouraged to come and experience your rich culture and history while contributing to your economy.

I think it is not good to divert this thread to a none related matter.

The beach is ruined by that ghastly covering. It sticks out like a sore thumb. You can create a natural barrier without ruining the aesthetics of the coastline[planting palm trees/placing shaped boulders etc].

There are Iran-friendly countries in the region, and hundreds of millions of Muslims abroad, like in South East Asia. If Iran is going for the "Halal Tourism" niche Turkey, Dubai and Morocco do not sit well with that since they have mainly secular or western-style tourism on offer.
