The main thing of Spike is its seeker and guidance system. The missile itself is not a big deal.

That's what I have told soheil it's the seeker and the software.

:)

Its cant be a bomb.

We don't know anything about guidance system...

About spike it's hard to reverse engineer.

It's not ... At least for Iran !

Irans all systems r reverse Engineering .

Not all systems !

Report: Missile system captured by Hizbullah, sent to Iran

SPECIAL TO WORLD TRIBUNE.COM
Monday, November 6, 2006

TEL AVIV — Hizbullah has captured an Israeli-origin advanced anti-tank guided missile system.

Israel state-owned television said an unidentified army unit left the launcher and missile in southern Lebanon, Middle East Newsline reported. The television said in a Nov. 3 report that Hizbullah found the Spike system and transferred it to Iran.

Israeli military sources said the Ground Forces Command has determined that Hizbullah seized the Spike anti-tank guided missile system. The sources said Hizbullah captured the Israeli system during the war in Lebanon in the summer of 2006.

"We know that one Gil [Spike] system has gone missing in an area where Hizbullah operated," a source said.

The Spike was developed and produced by the state-owned Rafael, Israel Armament Development Authority. The system, sold to several countries, was widely used against Hizbullah in the 34-day war in Lebanon, which ended on Aug. 14.

"It obviously went to Iran," Yoav Limor, the television's military commentator, said.

The television report said Israel's military has assessed that Iran would seek to reverse-engineer the Spike ATGM, with a range of four kilometers. Limor said this would allow Iran to develop counter-measures.

During the war, Hizbullah used Russian-origin anti-tank missiles obtained from Syria. They included the AT-14 Kornet missile, with a range of 5.5 kilometers.

Guys when they talked about the bomb it was not this atm . go to page one and look at all the system they showed.

The big problem with a Spike like system were the costs. Russians never went for it for that reason as you can equip ~6 times more units around the country with Kornets.

However the prices for the optics and electronics have went down dramatically especially due to Chinese mass production.
The 2006 capture sounds credible.

Expect special forces to use the Spike copy. If they can put down the cost to ~2 times Kornet, it could become wide speared and a ideal weapon against VBIED.

Warfareknow,

Except those look to have a rocket motor in the back and given their very small size, would more accurately make them small missiles, not bombs (definitely meant for UAVs to carry).

They were claimed to be "smart bombs" but you can be right.

Yes,but there was one variant that was an unpowered glide bomb, tho it could perhaps have been an operational test of the weapon minus its rocket motor, you can clearly see the rear of the weapon without a rocket nozzle at 1:26 in the video

Fafnir,

Point well made. That configuration is very odd though, why use an unpowered munition for a UAV? Can't say that I see anything gain from skipping a simple rocket motor assembly. The weapon would be lighter and somewhat cheaper but that doesn't seem very worthwhile given the slower time-to-target.
