Iranian UAVs | News and Discussions

Not every cruise missile. Tomahawk/Babur class of Cruise Missiles have albeit limited 'loiter capability'. They can hang around the targer for a limited period, depending on fuel and mission requirements. Both Raad & Babur have inbuilt self destruction capability should they go off course or the target is no longer green and missile can't be left for enemy to have access to.
well , here its not limited and the target is visible on-time for the mission control to decide .

there is a lot of difference when FLIRs enter the equation .

iran also has Ya-ali cruise missile with the same capability , but that was not enough for these special missions .

you don't fire a cruise missile at a Armed vehicle for example ! but when a VIP is in an armed vehicle , the same drones can be used to wipe them out

Reusable drones/cruise-missiles are the future. Long range, loiter time and in case of mission abortion its flight path can be altered and landed in a safe base ready to be used again. A very simple but effective tactic.

Suicide drones? Called cruise missiles in rest of the world since the German V1.

cruise missiles cannot hover over the target and precise-target them with FLIR :)

you fire the cruise missile and its gone !! you cannot change its course .
Wrong! Many cruise missiles have that capability. It's not that big of a deal.

I think it's gonna be useful in iraq & syria !
This will work well but there's a cheaper and more effective method. I believe local engineers should modify cheap cars and use the tactics of ISIS against them. Modify the cars to remote controlled vechiles using a dish with a few camera's, it'll give a few hundred kilometers of reach. Fill the car with explosives and drive it into ISIS controlled cities. ISIL will wait until the car is near as usual, than you can blow that shit up.

As they'd use it more often they would of course shoot at any car approaching them but that doesn't stop it easily, no one inside to die and it spreads terror.

Lieutenant Commander of the Iranian Army Brigadier General Abdolrahim Moussavi said his forces have been equipped with suicide drones for special operations. "The Iranian Army uses different types of drones, including reconnaissance, surveillance and suicide drones" for different missions, Moussavi told the state-run news agency on Tuesday, February 17, 2015.

Iranian Army soldiers moving an Iranian made drone during the "Mohammad Rasoul Allah" military drill in the Oman Sea port city of Bandar Jask in southern Iran.

"An instance of the operations conducted by the Army drones was displayed during the joint wargames of the Army forces staged in the Southeastern parts of the country late in December," he added.

Iran announced in January that it had successfully tested three suicide combat drones in the recent Mohammad Rasoulallah (PBUH) wargames in December.

"We tested three models of suicide unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), which were a type of cruise missiles and have been fully manufactured by Iranian experts," Lieutenant Commander of the Iranian Ground Force Brigadier General Kioumars Heidari told reporters.

He noted that the tested drones enjoyed a very advanced technology and were from Ra'd (Thunder) 85 Class.

Iran has recently made giant advancements in aerospace industries, specially in designing and manufacturing pilotless drones.

Also in September 2013, Commander of the Iranian Army Ground Force Brigadier General Ahmad Reza Pourdastan announced that the country's suicide combat drone named 'Ra'd 85' (Thunder 85) was capable of destroying fixed and mobile targets.
