Iranian Space program

They will launch production line of Khayyam sats with Russia, looks like the problem of temporal resolition will he solved soon. @TheImmortal they are working on spatial resolution also. For this, they need cooperation of NANO giants in Iran to increase the number of CCDs within rows and columns. Otherwise they will face weight problem.

The goal is 1 meter res for visible band.

It already is 1.2 meter in visible band originally the satellite was 2.1 meter. Unless it is really 2.1 meter and Iran lied about 1.2 meter band.

The goal should be .5 meter for visible band. These sats usually have lifespan of 5 years.

A peculiar satellite to mass produce given its filled with tech from 15-20 years ago. But maybe this is the only satellite Russia was willing to jointly produce with Iran.

If I was Iran I would try to incorporate SAR into satellites.

The question burning in my mind is what period of time was needed for Iran and Russia to interact ranging from agreement to Khayyam launch? 2 months? 2 years? Is Khayyam a turnkey satellite or was it a custom order or was it a system repurposed to Iran? That length of time will be telling.

By the way..I bet Khayam-2 and Khayam-3 will be launched by Iranian Heavy lift SLVs.

and here is possibly a small scale mockup of the 600kg khayam ..with the chief of Iran's civilian Space program

What orbit has Khayyam been launched into? Is it in GEO?
well not exactly Kannopus-5 have an altitude of around 500km and have a life span of around 5 year.
it achieve that life span at that altitude by having a fairly circular orbit instead of an elliptical orbit.

. . . .
Reconnaissance satellite works in Leo.

Closer means better images but lower life span.

Problem with LEO for recon sites is satellite moves across the earth in orbit. So you are at mercy of the orbit.

GEO is better since you stationary or I should say one with the Earth’s orbit and can focus on segment of the earth (ie Middle East) allowing real time recon updates.

Iran should first establish its geo recon sats. LEO sats are more non time sensitive surveillance or as you pointed out great image quality (assuming the camera or imaging device is sufficient).

Also easier to “blind” a LEO sat with laser. Iran has done it to US spy sat before.
