Iran among top 9 satellite-building countries

Morteza Barari, Head of Iran Space Agency, said Sun. that the Islamic Republic of Iran is among the top 9 countries in building satellites, next to US, Russia, Canada and some European countries.

Barari said that Iran ranks first in the Middle East region in scientific authority, adding that the country held the 14th place in the world in aerospace engineering in 2016, and improved its ranking to 11th in 2017. He expressed hope that this scientific authority could one day become a technological, industrial and economic authority as well.

According to him, in the period from 2006 to 2015, Iran became one of the first nine countries in the world that completed a full space technology cycle.

Talking about the Space Agency’s projects, Barari noted the Amir Kabir University of Technology Satellite Project, saying the satellite is in the launching stage.

He described the satellite as being 50cm to 60cm in each dimension, capable of reaching 500km in height.

The AUT satellite is equipped with four cameras on different wavelengths, capable of storing information and allowing simultaneous communication among 45 users, he added.

Barari maintained that four colleges, 16 university professors, as well as 110 PhD and postgraduate students were involved in the AUT satellite project.

He further put the total cost of the project at nearly $1.2 million.

it seems like the second satellite "doostiy" failed too or they launched empty SAFIR slv.:(

Satellite Imagery Suggests Second Iranian Space Launch Has Failed

Schmerler believes that despite the back-to-back failures, Iran will attempt another launch. "It's trial and error," he says. "And eventually they're going to get it right."

It is a hypothesis that it was a 'failed' satellite launch, i would still reserve judgment until official announcement. Currently, the only reason the western source claims it failed is because of lack of Iranian media coverage. There is no empirical evidence yet to show it was a satellite launch or it was satellite launch failure/success.

However, the timing is important and adds extra weight to the scenario that the satellite launch was a failure. Most likely, they tried to rush to launch so that it would be around the same time as Omid's launch time frame (10th anniversary). :(

at least we can learn from these mistakes. it's better than not to launch them at all.

As long as they didn't rush the launch to meet the anniversary. There was barely anytime passed since the last launch to understand the flaws and apply fixes. Otherwise it's a waste of resources.

Safir-1 is CLEARLY a unreliable SLV, it is underpowered and for whatever reason too volatile.

The number of Safir-1 failures GREATLY outweigh the successes.

Not sure why Iran bothers with this SLV.

Personally, I think IRGC doesn’t want too much success in this program. After all the amount of potential “spies” in the ISA cannot be underestimated. What better way for the West to understand Iran’s BM technology than to have front row intelligence gathering to the fueling process and key components.

i really want Iran's space program to get separated from IRGC. Iranian experts need to develop commercial grade space industry independent of military ties so that they can export their goods without risk.
