Iran's Ahmadinejad survives 'assassination attempt'

Iran's President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has survived an attack on his convoy in western Iran, media reports from the region say.

The reports say a device was thrown at the convoy in the city of Hamedan, where he was to deliver a speech.

Mr Ahmadinejad was unhurt and went ahead with the speech to a rally at a football stadium, which was broadcast live on state TV.

However, Iran's state-owned Press TV has denied the attack.

Arab TV reports said a number of people were wounded in the attack.

Dubai-based Al Arabiya television said the attacker hit a car carrying journalists. The attacker was detained, it added.

"This morning a hand grenade exploded next to a vehicle carrying reporters accompanying the president in Hamedan," Iranian website Khabaronline reported.

"Ahmadinejad's car was 100 metres (yards) away and he was not hurt."

Mr. A'jad is the president, not a PM. Prime Ministers are a dime a dozen in Iran, there are probably 11 or more of those.

If it was Israel or the U.S. it wouldn't have been a single grenade against a vehicle. And it wouldn't have been 100 meters away.

Very true, seems more like amateur night to me.

Did it sound like a 12-yr old who made that comment? Looks to me that the quickest way to earn any respect is to toss out the Mossad and/or the CIA.

TEHRAN, Aug 4, 2010 (AFP) - Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad's motorcade was not attacked by a grenade on Wednesday, an official in his media office told AFP, explaining that an explosion was from a "firecracker."

"It was a firecracker, and a statement will be released soon," the source said.

He was responding to reports on a conservative website that a hand grenade had exploded next to a vehicle carrying reporters accompanying the president in the western city of Hamedan.

Iran's Arabic-language Al-Alam TV reported that the firecracker was set off to cheer the president.

Ahmadinejad later delivered a live televised speech to locals gathered in a stadium and made no reference to the alleged incident.

The hardliner claimed this week that "Zionists" want to assassinate him.
