He has a nice voice. I like these classical songs much more than the new ones. Persian is too poetic to be accompanied by electronic high-tempo music

Dariush: Azar Abadegan,

I disagree

How would you classify these songs for example? I don't know, maybe it depends on our age, but I think modern Parsi songs are much better than what we used to have. You guys just don't hear modern Iranian music because these artists can't release their music (they don't get approved by the arabs in charge). So all you hear is the few songs that get released by record labels in LA and they all have the same taste.

In reality there are a lot of great modern young Iranian musicians and artists that you just never hear about b/c they can't release their work.

This one is produced in Iran and the poor girl will never be able to get approval from the arabs and release her music. It's an amateur work from top to bottom, but it's still a great song.Edit: anybody know where the video was shot? To me it looks like Shiraz.

I was referring to more "aggresive" songs, like the one below.

Benyamin-Kojaye Donyay ! - YouTube

They are from different times, doesn't make sense comparing them IMHO. But I don't hear much modern Iranian music, so I have limited knowledge of the field.. actually I don't hear any Iranian music, I just posted the songs I remember from childhood. The first video you posted is pretty nice, very different. Both the video itself and the song. But I admit, in that moderate setting it works well.

Think of benyamin as an Iranian Ka$ha that has to work within the confines of the Islamic Arab Republic of Iran. They both make the same type of music.

A lot of the music young Iranians listen to is based on "rap" music. It's not really rap music, although there are a lot of rap artists in Iran and they're quite popular as well, but the majority are a different take on rap. They're more like pop/trance/rap mixed together in a pot.

This is what most people my age listen to.

Fogholade by Zed Bazi (these guys are HUGE)

This track is a mix of rap and electro (going back to what I said)

This one is purely rap.

How about the older songs from Ebi, Dariush, Googoosh and that gang, are they popular among the youth too?

Well, out of the shah era artists, Ghomaishi is the most popular among the youth. He's actually huge. Dariush is popular too. Ebi and Gogoosh, not so much, although people do listen to their songs.

But Siavash Ghomaishi has been the most successful out of them all since the arabs came to power.

A Irani friend shared it

There is another one...
