The Iranian Quds force has entered Khanaqen, a Kurdish city in Diyala Province in Northern Iraq, to fight Islamic State (IS) militants in the town of Jalawla.

IS militants captured Jalawla last week, and have since been fighting the Kurdish Peshmerga for control of the town. Iranian forces have now come in to fight alongside the Kurdish forces in the area.

A Peshmerga source in Khanaqen told BasNews Iranian forces entered Iraqi soil from the Parwezkhan border gate and they came in response to a request from Patriotic Union of Kurdistan officials to support Peshmerga in the affected areas.

The source also added that Iranian forces have helped Kurdish forces with weapons, although that only amounts to small quantities of ammunition.

Last week an Iranian Kurdish official told BasNews that Qassem Suleimani, the Iranian general commander of the Quds force of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) is currently in Sulaimaniyah and trying to make the situation worse.

Since the recent attacks by IS militants in Northern Iraq, there have been reports of Iranian involvement helping the Iraqi army against the Jihadi group, especially in Kirkuk, Diyala and Baghdad.[/quote]

. . . .
The so called Quds force is a myth , there's no such thing , there were only some leather jacket brats who exploited the chaos of the 80s and the iranian revolution, and did a couple of assasinations in europe , but that's it , Today there's only the regular iranian army and the IRGC both of which have their elite forces , like every other army in the world

. . .
What is the difference between "Regular Iranian Army" and "IRGC" ?
The regular army is the remnants of what was left of the Iranian army under the Shah after the revolutionaries took it over and purged it its commanders and senior class. The IRGC started off as a vigilante/militia group in 1979 that evolved into an actual army during the 80s. Many other small paramilitary groups that sprang up during the revolution were eventually swallowed up into the IRGC. It was propped up and supported by Khomeini to act as a counter-balance to the regular Iranian army in case of any attempted coup against the revolution and then the new Islamic Republic. Even after murdering and exiling all of the Shah's officers Khomeini still didnt trust what was left of the army.

In theory the Iranian army is mandated to protect Iran from external threats, while the IRGC's function is supposed to be 'protecting the revolution' from internal threats to the revolutionary regime and enforcing the new order inside Iran. But in practice, the IRGC functions in a way that overlaps with the duties of the regular army and the police, and sometimes even the judiciary too. It also has its own intelligence wing and raises its own money in addition to what it receives from government budget.

The IRGC has overgrown in the past 20 years to actually be the de facto ruler in Iran. Many observers go as far as saying that even Ahmadinejad was just a mask used by the IRGC to facilitate putting their hands on the post 2005 huge oil revenues. To complete the joke, they represented Ahmadinejad as a very honest politician who owns 1977 old car! All in the middle of looting zillions of petro dollars, and dragging Iran into useless external conflicts. No wonder why his presidency was completely disastrous.

The IRGC's size and power are so immense now that the Supreme Leader can no longer control effectively. However, I must say that they are credited for fighting brutally in Iraq - Iran war, particularly for pushing back the Iraqi troops to the Iraqi boarders. It appears that the Mullahs themselves are not interested in improving the Iranian army's capabilities, and want to always make sure that the IRGC will prevail over the army in case of any possible conflict between the two.

KRG has long provided shelter to PJAK terrorists that are terrorizing our citizens.
That is why I think it is unlikely Iranian forces are fighting alongside KRG, PPK and PJAK forces. KRG is officially in bed with these terrorists. You can see pictures of PKK capturing IS equipment on the internet. Maybe they did out of necessity, maybe they were all the way since now.

These Kurdish militias are snakes, i wouldnt trust them. We were fighting Iraqi republican guards side by side with some Kurd groups but then years later these same assholes backstabbed us and turned their guns against us.

I would say as long our borders remain safe we shouldnt do anything at all.

what you described sounds a lot more like the Al-Qaeda and its 2014 model, ISIS, than Iran's IRGC :coffee:

If you disagree with what I worte above, then I guess that can't qualify as a conuter argument. It is full of reactionary language and cursing, only to tell me that you felt it really deeply.
