TEHRAN -- Iranian Energy Minister Majid Namjou has announced that Tehran has rejected a Chinese contractor’s bid to construct the world’s tallest arch dam in Iran and has accepted the bid of a domestic contractor.

Iran is planning to build the Bakhtiari Dam on the Bakhtiari River in a valley in the Zagros Mountains on the border between Lorestan and Khuzestan provinces in southwestern Iran.

A government committee and the Central Bank of Iran examined the bid made by China’s Sinohydro Corporation to build the Bakhtiari Dam and rejected it, Namjou told the Mehr News Agency on Monday.

After the Chinese company’s bid was rejected, it was decided that the Khatam-ol-Anbiya Construction Headquarters would build the tallest concrete dam in the world, he added.

Commenting on the procedure of selecting a foreign contractor for a project, Namjou said that first the Energy Ministry considers the bid, and then a government committee reviews it, and if it is approved, the foreign contractor takes over the project.

The Central Bank of Iran also must approve loans and financial instruments for bids for project contracts, he noted.

And the Central Bank of Iran rejected Sinohydro Corporation’s bid after studying the details it provided on funding and providing financial instruments, he explained.

Afterwards, a memorandum of understanding was signed with the Khatam-ol-Anbiya Construction Headquarters for the construction of the dam, Namjou said.

Upon completion, the 315-meter-high Bakhtiari Dam will have a reservoir capacity of 4.8 billion cubic meters and will include a 1500 MW hydropower plant, reports say.

It sounds really not so cool. Iran reject our bid and give the contract to a Local Firm controlled by IRGC.

You win some, you lose some. Maybe, they think that is the better option for them.

Shias have more confidence in local contractors then chinese companies :woot: Logical since many bridges have collapsed in tibet built by shady chinese construction companies.

we can build it by ourselves and we will build it ... thanks to Russia we realized that we should building our national project by ourselves ... if we gave it to others country then they would repeat Bussher powerhouse sad story ...

Russia is no that bad, you need at least trust someone....

China has build tons of projects in Pakistan, they are all fine. And this Sinohydro and other contracting firms have good reputation in Pakistan.

back to the topic, if in the bidding due process has been performed it's fine. but if the government step in forcibly or not in line with pre-set terms or FIDIC terms, that would be a terrible miss.

China need Pakistan for keeping India in watch , so Pakistan is China's strategic ally but in other hand Iran isn't China's strategic ally , they are merely our tactical ally for standing against west ... nothing more and nothing less....

Rather than bashing me kindly care to check what happened in india. GOI found 25000 unskilled chinese labors entered india on illegal business visa who were paid Rs1700 per day, given expensive uniforms, quality foods,AC rooms where local youths became unemployed.
