Damn this is a big *** system. It's called Mehran, but I suspect this was original called Arman?

Really wish MOD would give us updates as to status of BAVAR-373.

It’s been too long honestly.
So far we have seen:

1. Bavar-373 with 200km range Sayyad-4 (unveiled in 2016 and claimed to be ready for delivery in 2019)
2. TELAR variant of Bavar-373 (first seen in war-games in 2020)
3. Upgraded variant of Bavar-373 with increased detection/tracking range and 300km range Sayyad-4B (unveiled in 2022)
4. Arman (next generation of Bavar-373) with claimed 400km range and ABM capability (in development)

MoD: Bavar-373 (200km) --> upgraded Bavar-373 (300km) --> Arman (400km - TBC)

IRGC-ASF: Raad (120km) --> Third Khordad (200km) --> Mehran (320km)

Mehran is an incredible leap for the IRGC - mobile TELAR AD system with phased array AESA radar + EO/IR systems with 320km range Mehran-2 SAM

Mehran-1 SAM = 200km range (appears to be renamed Taer-3 SAM)
Mehran-2 SAM = 320km range

Mehran-1 SAM: 200km range (this is renamed Taer-3 missile which has confirmed 200km range)
Mehran-2 SAM: 320km range (visually it is larger than Mehran-1/Taer-3 so it doesn't make sense to have a lower range)

How does the new Mehran compare with the S300 overall?
Also, what higher tier radar would Mehran be attached to? Bashir? Meraj 4?

range is meaningless pissing contest without actual context.

You aren’t consistently intercepting a 1 meter object outside of 200KM (even that is a stretch) due to pilot having so many avenues to unleash (drop tanks and retreat, altitude dive, jam radar, release radiation missile, etc).

Against a F-35/F-22 this system will struggle unless object is under 50KM. In that case it will use its optical seeker to passively target while keeping its emissions off (how Iran hit Global Hawk).

Thus to target f-35/F-22 using a system such as this it would need to link with Nebo in VHF band to get a general sector airspace location of the object. Russia claims its can track an F-35 object at more than 100KM using Nebo. However, the VHF won’t be able to give precise enough tracking, it will just allow Iran’s missile to get within close enough range that when missile turns on its SARH (its own radar) it can hopefully locate the F-22/F-35 in top attack mode.

Again this assumes F-35/F-22 is maintaining optimal RCS and limiting emissions. If F-22 detects the Mehran it can attempt radar evading maneuvers, jamming, or radiation missile counter measure.

That’s why I doubt most air defense systems can intercept 5th Gen sized object (US, Russian, Chinese, whatever) >100KM. The crew + national air defense network + the system all need to work together to achieve success.

This system is designed mostly with 4th Gen in mind and intercepting CMs and other objects that make it thru various air defense rings.
