What's new

Iran, with 7,000 years of history, will not be liveable in 20 years’ time

the article doesn't make clear, so it is not drought causing depletion of river, you have a dam built upstream from isfahan, and yet the extraction/water stress is too high from farmers? isnt the whole point of dams, canal and irrigation system under central regulatory authority to control the amount that is available for use if it is being overused and depleted by farmers, or to release more when there is underutilization/dry top soil?

seems purely a management issue, but i find it hard to believe the authorities in iran are that incompetent. farsis are pretty smart people from my limited dealings with them.

other factor of course is the nature of topography. iran has less rainfall or monsoon to support the water cycle, especially in its hinterland. and even just satellite images give an idea of how much arable land is available over vast areas in general, whether plains or rugged landscape.

west asia is blessed with fossil fuels and very little farmland, whereas for south asia it is opposite. only seasonal rivers/tributaries dry up for portion of the year in subcontinent, otherwise it's unheard of for major rivers to become completely barren like in the picture. even tiny bangladesh probably will never run out of minimum food, water for basic needs. population control is the real challenge.

notice how afghanistan is complete dud land. not suprisingly afghanis of all ages and regions risk their lives trafficking themselves either to iran's oil economy where they face abuse or to Pakistan for food, water and decent livelihood.

Incompetency is not something visible that you could see in a personality, but it's the actions and the results that speak.
The reality is, yes, they are exactly that incompetent.

Where did the 7000 year history come from?
Earliest history of Persia is from around 2000-2500 BC. Egyptian history goes back to 3500BC
Tepe Sialk - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Shahr-e Sukhteh - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Chogha Mish - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Chogha Bonut - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Jiroft culture - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
you see for example the oldest building in Tapeh Sialk is dated to 6000BC and its the reconstructed Zigurat there

and these are images from pottery find Chogha Mish which beginning of 6800 BC and continuously from the Neolithic up to the Proto-Literate period.and clearly shows a musician

  • In December 2006, archaeologists discovered the world's earliest known artificial eyeball.[12] It has a hemispherical form and a diameter of just over 2.5 cm (1 inch). It consists of very light material, probably bitumen paste. The surface of the artificial eye is covered with a thin layer of gold, engraved with a central circle (representing the iris) and gold lines patterned like sun rays. The female remains found with the artificial eye was 1.82 m tall (6 feet), much taller than ordinary women of her time. On both sides of the eye are drilled tiny holes, through which a golden thread could hold the eyeball in place. Since microscopic research has shown that the eye socket showed clear imprints of the golden thread, the eyeball must have been worn during her lifetime. The woman's skeleton has been dated to between 2900 and 2800 BCE.[13]

I guess it is of the oldest gold work you can find , and this description can tell you about its artistic value
Referring to magnificent method practiced for making this artificial eye, Sajadi said: “Even the most delicate eye capillaries were drawn on this eyeball using golden wires with a thickness measuring less than half a millimetre. The pupil of the eye has been devised on the centre of the eyeball and there are also some parallel lines around the pupil forming a diamond shape.”

sadly it is not with the stupid retard major of Esfahan or many stupid decision makers we have
that the situation will be solved .
again people will pay the price of non smart policy or no policy at all.

for Esfahan you can find many pictures of people using lot of water to wash vegetables in a stupid way
lot of people have no education , no collective way of thinking ... and nothing is done to change it

it reminds me the problem of taxes in Iran ... it is not normal we don't have taxes like any modern country
we should not care bazaar or whoever is not happy about it, any modern country needs taxes
I doubt the water used by people have anything to do with that , when people use water they use Surface water , and then that water will be send back usually to Draining well which means it go back to earth , but agriculture and farming is something else .
our farming system is at best Archaic and it use wells to remove from the earth and release it on earth and 2/3 of that water evaporate and so it reduce the water level underground and don't forget we use 85% of our water in farming.

Farsis are pretty smart and educated, however in Iran many smart young people are not allowed to become parliament members. The guardian council prevents them to become candidates. Instead bunch of goats, grandfathers and mullahs, water carriers are allowed to become parliament members.

However if they phuckup bad, they are responsible and the anger will be towards them...
