This many years after Shahrud-129 they unveil a heavier version with different engine?
What was point of Fotros then? Gaza is nothing more than a Fotros 2.0 EO tech is still disappointing and I don’t see SAR integration.
It’s a bigger S-129 that can carry heavier payloads. Only reason EO was even upgraded is due to high operation ceiling you need more capable EO for accurate targeting.
Also what is the point of this drone? Is Iran hunting down rag tag terrorists?
In a war zone against a high tech adversary (Israel, Saudi Arabia, US etc) this drone has a worse survivability than the so-called elite Global Hawk which actually had an anti air defense system on board.
Again Iran should be focusing on supersonic high altitude bomber UAVs that can survive in competitive airspace for 21st century conflict. Iran is not the US bombing banana countries and rag tag terrorists from 10KM in the air.
I don’t see this drone seeing as much action when S-129 can meet Iran’s current needs and cheaper operation. This is exactly what doomed Fotros (besides the engine that is).
This drone would have been great for Syrian theater 5 years ago when Syria was desperate for 24/7 air power. Now? Not so much.
As I said in the other UAV thread, this is largely for uncontested air space like Syria . I agree this is useless against a modern opponent just like most drones this size. Nevertheless, it’s a tool to have and maybe helpful in niche areas against a lesser capable opponent (Azerbaijan).
