Iran unveiled '15th khordad' medium range air defense system

Today Iran unveiled it's newest mid range air defense system dubbed "15th khordad".
System officially delivered to army air defense force. This system has a phased array radar and uses Sayyad-2 and Sayyad-3 missiles, can track and engage with up to 6 targets simultaneously.

15th khordad is a tactical system, requires minimum number of crews and consist of a minimum of two vesicles, one vehicle for for radar (discovery and engagement) and C&C system, and one vehicle for missile launcher, preparation time is less than 5 minutes.

defense minister described it as very lethal against targets in up to 27km altitude and in range of 7km to 75km.

discovering range: 150km
tracking range: 120km
Engaging range: 75km
Discovering range against stealth targets: 85km
Engage range against stealth targets: 45km

Iran unveils advanced air defense system

TEHRAN, Jun. 09 (MNA) – Iran’s Defense Ministry has unveiled a domestically-built air defense system, called “15th of Khordad”.

The homegrown system was unveiled and delivered to the Army Air Defense Force on Sunday, in a ceremony attended by Defense Minister Brigadier General Amir Hatami.

Elaborating on the features of the new system, Brigadier General Hatami said, "the '15th of Khordad' which has been designed and developed by domestic experts can simultaneously intercept and take action against six targets."

"It can also be prepared for operation in less than five minutes."

The new system, which uses the homegrown Sayyad-3 missile, can track targets such as jet fighters and combat drones within a range of 150 kilometers and intercept them within a 120km range, he added.

Sayyad-3 is an indigenous long-range air defense missile designed to hit high-altitude targets.

The '15th of Khordad' can also intercept stealth targets within a range of 85km, and destroy them in a 45km range.

Iranian military experts and technicians have in recent years made great headways in manufacturing a broad range of indigenous equipment, making the armed forces mostly self-sufficient in the arms sphere.

Iran has also conducted major military drills to enhance the defense capabilities of its armed forces and to test modern military tactics and state-of-the-art army equipment

Upgraded Sayyad-2?

Sayyad-2 was just the name of the missile, Talsh-2 was the name of the project and '15th khordad' is the name of this final system.

Quick question: I assume that the reason Iran uses a similar aesthetic to the Patriot SAMs is to due practical reasons right? Just makes logical sense to arrange 4 cells in that configuration.

what do you mean by same air defense upgrade, 15th Khordad is a completely different system from Talash_2, Talash could not fully operate Sayyad 3 it was to big and heavy for it they could only carry 2 of them the the radar in Talash system had a range of ~120 km it was not enough powerful for Sayyad 3 Navid is a different radar more powerful with its 150 km range

Iran never said why they making them look like Patriot SAMs the real reason is a secret to this day..

i noticed a strange thing and that is they were covering the name of the missile and they just said its Sayyad 3 ( and i said yaaaah right ) so i think its a upgraded Sayyad 3 with longer range they hiding the real range of the system i would say its more than 120 km for the missile and in that case the radar is more powerful than what they said too.

what do you mean by same air defense upgrade, 15th Khordad is a completely different system from Talash_2, Talash could not fully operate Sayyad 3 it was to big and heavy for it they could only carry 2 of them the the radar in Talash system had a range of ~120 km it was not enough powerful for Sayyad 3 Navid is a different radar more powerful with its 150 km range

Same upgrade means we still use old Standard for defending our best ships but when it come to ground we at least twice upgraded the defence grid.

They covered the variant Letter of both Sayyad-2 and Sayyad-3 missiles and for a good reason.
