Iran to donate 100 million dollars to Pakistan

And you ppl say Gilani is worthless....

He is not really worthless. But after four years in power, their output has not been as it should have been. First of the PPP government is a weak one and built on shaky coalitions. I wish the next Pakistani government be a strong one and not a coalition one. That way atleast they can go ahead and do something with out compromising for their coalitions. The other problem is the old story of corruption.

But right now there are really poor people who need help, already more than 200 have died.

You could be using the same words for what happened last year - basically the Pakistan governments response to the floods of last year seems to have been, lets just beg - no national effort to ensure that the rains and floods would not do the same damage they did last year, just beg - No giant public project to capture and channel these waters, just beg.

Ofcourse if some day we develop our economy and infrastructure to the point that we would not need any help

See, I just don't buy the idea that there is a "IF" involved - this is a question of "WILL". Lots of people in the world need help, thank God, they have not decided that begging is the way to help themselves.

I agree with your concept. But I consider this a bit different. Going to IMF and World bank and getting aid in return for doing some thing colonialists want us to do, is begging. But in natural calamity it can not straight away be termed begging. Even the richest country on earth United States accepted aid during Katerina disaster. We are much poorer. We have to draw a red line. For calamities and disasters or for improving education and health it is ok to accept aid. But straight away money like those coming in for opaque goals are all begging and definitely for corruption and these should be stopped.

Yeah, I know. The problem is Iran nowadays suffers from a very malicious western led propaganda campaign to portray a negative image of this great culture. Basically they want to decrease Iran's popularity among Muslim nations and kill this hope among Muslims that they can be sovereign and independent too. That is why I posted this news from Iran, so that I do my part in countering this vicious western campaign against Iran. As you know west wants to keep us slaves for ever. And the greatest slavery is the one which is in the mind. That is why Iran's image is important. As Iqbal said once the mind is free then the chains will fall off automatically. Iran is an example, west wants to kill. As if other slaves look up and see this example, they might free up themselves too.

Inshallah all muslims nations will be free from American influence. The process has started from Egypt. After the attack on Israeli embassy, like the iranians attacked the American embassy. Global anti-arrogance day has begun.

It's really a great gesture on part of Iran. I mean Iran is not a super rich country and 100 Million dollars is not a small amount either.

Just one doubt I have here, if anyone can help clarify - How does Iran plan on carrying out this transaction?

Thats what in economics what we call, structural adjustments. We go towards IMF and world bank because we have a tax/gdp less than 10% (one of the lowest in the world), the problem with public and media is the lack of education in this regard. Please note that IMF's loan is Balance of Payment support, not like a loan from Worldbank or ADB etc. I was listening to one of the executive in planning commision, I raised the same question. His reply was quite interesting, He said,"With this debt to GDP and structure of BoP, anyother lender would charge way higher than market rate for taking this risk. why do we go to IMF? because they are the cheapest option available". Secondly, IMF does not give you a pain pill like our media reports it. Alongwith their funding, they come up with a program to enable country to arrange the payback. Its a piety that someone else is forcing you on a way which you are supposed to go by yourself. For example, our businessmen earn at least as much as a salaried person (generalization), but how much do they pay in taxes? IMF saw it as a big potential source of increasing Tax/GDP via RGST, but they (business community) lobbied against it. IMF identified agriculture as a potential source, there was again a lobby working with argument that poor farmers will die.In reality, the food prices have more than doubled in last few years (doubling the revenue), add to that 95% of the agricultural land is owned by 5% of big farmers, did somebody stand in media and pointed towards these? The more i ll discuss the more it pains me that how we remain in self denial, we are eager to discuss what we should have, but dont like to even discuss what we should contribute.

I am very sure there's a link between Pakistan's assurance that it will crack down on the terrorists in South of Pakistan, and Iran's sudden "claim" of $100m donation. In such times, promises can be deafening. But the real action... well we come to know of it only after we see the end results, right?

In plain words - Either there's a pretty nice catch for Iran in this, or it's just bluffing. No other way.

It's a shame for Pakistan. Every-time there's a disaster in Pakistan, their PM has to run outside and ask others for money.

Why don't these guys just do something?

nice post bro but i think its on here already since yesterday.

What is nice in this news?

When will we stop all this crap of begging?

Where is all the aid received from international donors when the last time floods happened?

How much of it reached the affected people and not the bank accounts of officials and politicians?

What efforts were made to counter the floods keeping in mind "A Muslim is not bitten from the same hole twice". Do we remember this saying Hadith (saying)?

The international community does not have any liability to help Pakistan so many times. All the aid is only going to the bank accounts not to the affected people. I wish Pakistan gets no Aid at all from any country as long as we have corrupt politicians and officials incharge of the people's affairs.

"A Muslim is not bitten from the same hole twice"

How many times did floods happen in Pakistan? What measures were taken to counter it?

We have been bitten 1000s of times by these politicians and officials but again we see them sitting in the offices and we help them to loot the country and then the officials and politicians do not do anything for the people as they know that to ensure countries give aid to Pakistan the people should be made to suffer and eventually they (the officials and politicians) can increase their bank balances.

We go around the world begging and call charity "a lovely gesture"

Sometimes I have to agree with muse.
