Iran signs deal with China to connect key port to rail network

TEHRAN (AFP) - China will build a train line connecting the Iranian port of Bushehr to the rest of the country's railway network under a US$700 million (S$920 million) deal signed on Wednesday (March 7).

The agreement was inked in Tehran in the presence of Iranian Transport Minister Abbas Akhoundi and officials from China Machinery Industry Construction Group.
It will see the group build a 400-kilometre railway between the Gulf port and the southern city of Shiraz, IRNA state news agency cited officials as saying without specifying when construction would get underway.
This would complete the "North-South Railway Corridor" in line with Iran's goal of becoming a transport hub for goods between the Gulf, the Indian subcontinent, Russia and Central Asia.

Products arriving at Bushehr, Iran's second biggest port after Bandar Abbas, also on the Gulf, currently have to be transported by road.
The Bushehr-Shiraz rail project is one of seven the government is working on totalling 2,300 kilometres in tracks, according to IRNA.
China is Iran's biggest economic and trading partner.

In September, the Asian giant granted lines of credit worth US$10 billion for five banks financing infrastructure projects.

You could use Iran to push goods. Goods from China through Pakistan to Chabahar to rest. Chabahar was visioned not to go to China. China can push it goods through from Gwadar to Chabahar.

Gawadar port for China and Pakistan is all in one and was created for this purpose.
Others to join it will be our extra benefit for Pakistan. It is aimed for all Central Asia to access and use it market goods into China. The port in the future will be china’s life line against malacca straits threats so its importance for China is unimaginable that’s why has a huge unstoppable potential to grow for Pakistan it’s a game changer for ever.

And On the side we have a newly constructed silly port called chabhar near our border.Based on Indian delusional ways at somehow fighting and striking back at Pakistan by doing this no comparison at all with ours. Iran behaviour was either naughty or envious who cares. Your bogeyman Saudis have no interest to upset their close ally Pakistan. You need to wake up and pick your country’s side. Iran has thrown his lot with India in this port so just change your tune on Pakistan. Stop going about this common imaginary interests we both have And its outsiders that are spoiling it for both us untrue . The truth is Pakistan and Iran are regional competitors eventually it will happen what you fear.

Its the port that is leased to Indians (for 10 years) not the space between the two ports.

If China Pakistan want to join both ports Indians have no veto in it,only Iranians do.

gwadar? what is that? I looked up on google maps I can't find anything. Just small village type slums and large round about in the middle. It doesnt have any connection what so ever with rest of pakistan just a small road to karachi.

chabarhar have rails, roads connected to it. two big universities. Already busy port.

absolutely nothing. gwadar have population of 80k. no roads or railways connected. just a small road to karachi. work is still from 2007. no progress. CPEC is a joke. loans, loans and loans. chinese must be laughing at us. new power plants what a joke we dont need new power plants we need circular debt to go away.

And biggest joke of all gwadar still doesnt have any water or sewerage system. looool
