There is a difference , Syrian economy was terrible while Saudis have one of the biggest if not the biggest economy in the region , not to mention their overall living standards are levels ahead of Iran , Syria and others.

Freedom of course is an issue but the level of development and better living standards for the people compensates it for them in a way.
