Iran seizes oil tanker in Gulf

A search and rescue operation is underway for a US Navy sailor who fell overboard from the aircraft carrier USS Abraham Lincoln in the Arabian Sea. A Spanish and Pakistani ship are assisting the search.
The sailor, whose name is being withheld in accordance with navy policy, was reported overboard on Wednesday. Search parties from the Lincoln and the cruiser USS Leyte Gulf are looking for the missing man, assisted by the Spanish frigate Mendez Nunez and the Pakistani frigate Aslat.

The news comes amid reports that amphibious assault ship USS Boxer entered the Persian Gulf and shot down an Iranian drone.

these ships stay away from shore and then send oil in small fast boat to them .

From what was reported by now , the ship seized had capacity of 2 million liters , just so people would realize what it means - the ship the British stopped at Gibraltar had capacity of 2 million barrels , what i think can be called a supertanker.

So it well could be that it is just a small smuggling boat.

But on this things it is always good to wait a while till the picture clear.

One ship does not mean " imminent attack " i remind you the Iranians held British and American ships and freed them in the end.

Another thing to look at is that after china , UAE is the country that exports most of the stuff to Iran ( about 14% of Iran's imports last year came from UAE ) , does Iran really want to make the relations with them worse ?

I carried on the assumption that was in the post to which I was responding to. I do understand that there is no 'imminent' threat to Iran.

If they deliberately inviting an attack on them and actively helping Hindu country to do sabotage in Muslim country then I must say.....Mithai bantoun gha but I feel pity for millions of oppressed people who will die because of Mullah cult.

If they are deliberately helping a non-Muslim country against a Muslim country then they are in the wrong. And they will have to answer for their acts, we will have to answer for ours. Even politically and diplomatically, we need to figure out why it is that they are helping India against Pakistan and then we should resolve their grievances amicably.

On the part about Iran deliberately inviting an attack, this is 100% incorrect. The US deliberately ditched the Nuclear deal to please Saudi Arabia and that move is hurting Iran. You do something like that to the US and US will consider that an act of war; Iran, on the other hand, isn't strong enough to fight for her rights but that does not mean that Iran should take everything lying down.

A British-flagged oil tanker has been seized in the Gulf by the Iranian Revolutionary Guard, Iran media say.

The owners of the Stena Impero, which was bound for Saudi Arabia, say they have been unable to contact the vessel and it is "heading north towards Iran".

The Foreign Office says it is "urgently" looking into the reports.

I'm not sure what US/UK/Saudi Arabia strategy is at this point. These tensions can't decrease without comprehensive political solution in various arenas of region like Syria, Yemen, Iraq, Palestine, Israel. Much more so in Syria , Iraq, Yemen and now the Gulf region. New nuclear deal , if that can even be achieved, will not change reality in region. Iran is patient with its strategy and hopes to dominate Saudi Arabia within 5-10 years. Because it wants to take over leadership of Islam, and having the holy sites means they can change Sunni Islam and start spreading Shia Islam more effectively in region.

KSA/UAE are just waiting for it to happen. Not a good strategy for them.

Tanker tracker notes change
A second tanker may also have been seized by Iran. Tanker Tracker notes that its course shifted sharply towards the north and to Iran.
It's named the Mesdar and is UK-owned by flying a Liberian flag.
Iran is saying the UK vessel captured earlier had an incident with another ship. These could be the two ships involved or something else may be afoot. Iran also says the UK vessel is empty and not holding cargo.
