It's not that easy. Anyone who increases their prices will lose market share, as customers in Asia and Europe will switch to the cheaper option. There is no reason to pay extra for oil when there are a hundred other places that will sell it cheaply.

That may not be the reason....recently US jumped as top oil producing countries in world... due to the technology to produce oil from shale rock... the moment Saudis decreased oil price, those investments went down the drain.
Iran or Russia are not out of business, they are just not getting the same profits as before, hence the disturbance..

Guys you have to understand that apart from Russia and Iran there are other dynamics too...Oil producing comp of US does not want the shale gas per unit price to be even nearer to the Oil price. If this is so, US political parties will favor to explore Shale than Import Oil...So it is not just Iran and Russia which is driving crazy to Oil producing nations...One thing for sure...US and West are definitely on the threshhold of the technology of alternate energy...If oil price does not come down, there might be possibility of alternate energy to come up in near future...I think that is also another factor too...
