The Islamic Republic of Iran’s national under-23 football team has defeated Turkey 3-2 to become the champion of the 11th International Friendly Under-23 Football Tournament held in Qatar.


Iran beat Turkey at al-Arabi Stadium in Qatar’s capital, Doha, on Monday.

Turkey’s Cenk Tosun scored the opener for his team two minutes into the match, but Iran’s Payam Sadeqian leveled the game three minutes later. He scored the second goal in the 26th minute to clinch the first half 2-1.

In the second half, Mohsen Mosalman scored for the Iranian squad in the 74th minute, and in the 84th minute, Turkish Ridvan Simsek pulled one back.

Iran remained unbeaten in the four-nation tournament as the Iranian footballers blanked host Qatar 2-0 on Saturday, and edged past Morocco 1-0 on Thursday.

In the other match of the tourney, Qatar defeated Morocco 2-1 to finish in the third place.

No. The 4 Asian teams going to the u-20 world cup held in Turkey are Australia, Iraq, South Korea and Uzbekistan.

UEFA is a very competitive division. If Turkey played in AFC for example I think they would qualify for a lot more tournaments. Also from what I see a large part of Turkish football's game plan is hoovering up Germany's reject players. This has made them lazy in producing their own good players.

They never produced good players in the first place, A lot of famous Turkish footballers are raised in Europe. Mesut Ozil, Hamit/Halil Altintop, Nuri Sahin for example.

I know. As long as you depend on German national team rejects to come and play for Turkey, you will never have a great national team. Anybody good enough to play for Germany choses them ahead of Turkey, such as Ozil and Gundogan.

We had a great team in 2002,most of them were raised in Turkey so it has nothing to do with where they come from.
We need a coach who lets the best players play and not by favor.

Thanks, but it was a meaningless tournament, so no congratulations needed.

But what you say proves my point. If your team used to do well when you had home grown players, and is doing poorly now you have Germany reject players, then you should go back to the old system. Turkey needs to invest more in youth teams and young aged football.
