TEHRAN, April 18 (Xinhua) -- Iran will start construction of two nuclear power plants in the country in cooperation with Russian experts, Iranian Energy minister announced on Tuesday.

"The contract has been signed between the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI) and Russia, and includes building two 1,000-megawatt nuclear power plants, the construction of which is about to start," Hamid Chitchian said.

His remarks came after AEOI Head Ali Akbar Salehi announced on Saturday that construction of two new nuclear power plants in the country will start soon.

Chitchian also said that "another active project is also underway between the energy ministry and Moscow on constructing a 1,400-megawatt power plant in Hormozgan province near the Persian Gulf," adding that the construction work of the power plant has already started.

In February, Russian Energy Minister Alexander Novak underlined that Moscow is keen on finalizing contracts with Iran and also helping the country build more power plants.

Iran plans large-scale construction of power plants and Russia may receive a significant share in building contracts of such power plants, Novak said.

We should build nuclear plants as many as practicable and improve our nuclear infrastructure.the moment the last B777X9 arrive i will say **** USA and the nuclear deal, lets go for bombs lol.

why do Russian plants use such high yield fuel for fission? I learned something interesting the other day, a plant operating in Canada buys used Russian fuel and uses them to run their own plant.
I couldn't confirm it myself, but if true, does anyone know the reason?

Iran Commences Nuclear Power Plant Construction

Iran has commenced construction of two new nuclear plants in the southern province of Bushehr which will be jointly built with Russia.
As per the agreement signed between the senior officials of the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI) and Russia's Rosatom energy firm, Bushehr nuclear power plantds will be supplying electricity to Iran’s power grid in 10 years, where phase two of the plant will be completed in seven years and the third two years later.
“Twenty percent of the entire phase two and eighty percent of its building construction will be done by the Iranian side. We have signed an agreement to build eight power plant blocks and these blocks could be built in other parts of Iran,” Rosatom Director General Alexey Likhachev was quoted as saying by Press TV at a Tuesday press conference with the AEOI chief Ali Akbar Salehi in Bushehr Wednesday.
During the inauguration ceremony of new nuclear power station in the southern port city of Bushehr on Tuesday, AEOI chief said that each of the two new phases will produce 1,057 megawatts of electricity. Combined with phase one, Iran will produce some 3,300 megawatts of nuclear-generated electricity in a decade.
He pointed to Iran’s plan to produce 20,000 megawatts of nuclear-generated electricity and said, “Since the cost of constructing a 1000-megawatt nuclear power plant is $5,000 billion, we need to invest $100,000 billion to build nuclear power plants with a capacity to generate 20,000 megawatts of electricity”.

will it take again ~ 40 years like Busher plant?
well don't forget that bushehr power-plant project started in 1975 by German Kraftwerk Union AG, a joint venture of Siemens AG and AEG Telefunken, well it seems they didn't have the know how to finish it so we make a contract with Atomstroyexport in 1995 to finish it and then like what happens with Russia we made a new deal with them in 2007 and the powerplant become online in 2011

also don't forget one of the reason this project took so long was due to problem with old system that were installed in it 30 years ago

different power plans , different fuel. Tehran Research reactor was an American design which used to work with 95% uranium and latter converted with the help of Argentina to work with 20% uranium.
