TEHRAN: Iran is preparing to launch five to six satellites into the space as part of its aerospace development programme.
"We are currently carrying out a project which will see the design, production and launch of 5 to 6 satellites. We hope to send one satellite into space in the first half of the coming year," Iranian Telecommunications Minister Reza Taqipour said.

"Iran has laid the foundation for the development of its aerospace industry in the past three to four years," Taqipour told Fars News Agency.

Taqipour said the country has no shortcomings in its domestic space programme as Iranian scientists have managed to gain a firm grasp on satellite-related technology.

Theran is also planning to develop a launch pad in the country.

"We now have only one launch pad in the country; so, as you can imagine, there are some limitations in that area," he noted.

"However, we plan to build more launch pads and have even specified suitable locations in the country (from which) to send satellites into space," he added.

After launching Omid satellite in February last year, Tehran has unveiled three new satellites and a satellite carrier, Tolou, Mesbah II and Navid respectively.

Iran is one of the 24 founding members of the United Nations Committee on the Peaceful Uses of Outer Space (UNCOPUOS), which was set up in 1959.

Iran is probably the only Muslim country who knows how to use weapon of communication. Even if they are about to send 1, just have a look at the "leaked" information that we are ready to launch 6. :yahoo: FAK! They are goood!

1 or 2 is believable but 6 seems to be a lot. Lets see what happens.

6 satellite for what? and what are their capabilities?

Well at least they can send even 1.Many Countries including North and South Korea failed. And Especially it's a shame for Pakistan. We have the oldest missile program of any Islamic Country and used to far far ahead of anyone else. But now Iranians have overtook it.

So these are telecom sats i am guessing ? Not military ones ?

Its not all about capabilities but about funding.. Iranians are willing to pay for failed attempts which most countries unable to afford or unwilling...

they shud look for one successful attempt

well troll, we have already sent two other sats in the past couple of years
do you even know what this is about or you just wanna troll b/c it's Iran?

What was the resolution of the satellite you have launched before ? I heart something like 200m resolution and Omid satellite.. Is it true ?

and You have used a 25 tonnes SLV to carry a satellite with a weight of 27kg into space?

I don't know about the resolution sorry
but tbh the launch was more about the SLV then the communication satellite. Russia was sending satellites for us (Sina-1 for example).

I think this was as much about testing an ICBM as it was about sending a sattelite into the orbit.
The safir rocket is basically a shahab missile with a bunch of changes (for example the rocket is two stage not three which proves that Iran is moving towards solid fueled rockets which are more advanced then the liquid fueled ones).

Safir-2

On 2 February 2009, a Safir rocket conducted Iran's first orbital launch, with the Omid satellite.[14] The two-staged launch vehicle named SAFIR-2 was 22m long with a diameter of 1.25m, weighing about 26 tonnes. The 27 kg Omid satellite was launched into an orbit with a 245.5 km perigee and 381.2 km apogee.[3][15] The evidence is mounting that Safir-2 was more powerful and advanced than initially thought.[16]

========================================
Now the ones that will launch this year will be carried by a new SLV

Safir-2 Block-II

Iran has begun the development of the planned Block-II Safir booster intended to double its payload capacity with the intent to make it operational by some time in 2010. The launch vehicle is to acquire its increased payload capacity into low earth orbit through the addition of two Samen, solid motor strap-on boosters added to the Shahab-3C derived first stage and possible a new solid motor third stage added to the existing two stage Safir space booster. The announcement of the development start on this booster was made on April 14, 2009 by the Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad. This booster is capable of placing satellite in 700 kilometre (440 mile) orbits or doubling its payload capacity.Iran is known to be combining these liquid propellant and solid motor technologies to the development of a more capable Safir block-II class space booster expected in 2010 with over twice the capability of the present Safir space booster. Iran is known to be working on a new, nearly all solid propellant boosters with a payload capacity of 330 kilograms to low earth orbit.[17]

this whole thing has a dual purpose. Iran is sending satellites and is testing the new generation of missiles, perhaps ICBMs b/c if Iran can send stuff into the orbit then she is pretty close to a functioning ICBM.

Iran Has ICBM Power
13 April 2009 Ariel Cohen

As Iran's ICBM capability advances, it will allow warhead delivery against the United States. A long-range missile fired from Tehran would be able to reach America's Eastern Seaboard in half an hour. Defense experts agree that the technology used for launching a missile capable of orbiting a satellite gives the necessary technological means to reach any target with a warhead.

People people...Iran is sending 6 satellites up in space so that at least one gets up there. It's all about redundancy

If they send 6 ...1 MIGHT actually ..make it!!!:rofl:

the news is silent about the time schedule.
what is clear is that Iran will send a satellite until Sept.
Iran has 2 Sat on space now, if someone like to make fun with Iran capabilities is up to them, this never harm Iran. only a few country can send Sat to space and Iran is one of them. you can make your fun, but will see what Iranian doing
