Iran Proposes Defense Pact with Gulf States

Iranian Defense Minister Mostafa Mohammad Najar said Nov. 7 that countries bordering the Gulf should sign a defense pact to provide security along the strategic waterway.

”Signing a collective defense and security treaty among the Persian Gulf states will guarantee peace and security in the region,” he told the Mehr news agency.

”One such pact can include expanding military ties, organizing joint maneuvers, fighting terrorism, combating arms and drug trafficking as well as regional security,” he said.

Iran has been flexing its military muscles in a new series of war games in its southern Gulf waters since Nov. 2 — coinciding with US-led naval maneuvers in the same region.

Iran’s elite revolutionary guards fired, for the first time in maneuvers, its longer-range Shahab-3 ballistic missile, triggering widespread international concerns.

Iranians are very smart. Now they are buying American allied Arabs who in time of conflict might provide them strategic depth.

Yes do it. I hope the arabs are smart enough to do it. Not only will it help them military, it'll help them techonlogical wise since iran is light years ahead of these arabs in terms of tech. Iran has gone as far as being the first country in middleesat to have a solar power car and to do clone reasearch. They also have their space progam. But enough of that. Having such allianence will help these countries. But i doubt if the arabs will actully do it, they are all armerican tattoos. Iran should do something like this pakistan.

If the Arabs say they are in... Only then will Pakistan follow. Pakistan has made it clear that it wouldn't want to involve itself in a dangerous situation all by itself.

The thing is if everyone signs this pact then that'll mean war would probably never happen.

There is already a GCC in existence. Iran is not a part of it. In addition to the American factor; there are two other impediments. First and foremost is Arab verses non Arab. It is quite important and it was because of this that most Arab countries supported Saddam against Iran, even though Saddam was the aggressor.

Secondly it is Sunni verses Shia. Most of the Arab Gulf States are of the Wahabi/ Hanbali maslak. Traditionally, these people have been very suspicious of Shia doctrine. Until the 1948 convention of Cairo at Al Azhar University, most Wahabis didnot consider Shia as muslims. It will be a long time before any defence pact betwen Arab Gulf States and Iran can be seriously considered. This is just a propaganda excercise of behalf of Iran.

Like I always said:We have learn nothing from our past.Its always an opponent's strategy: DIVIDE AND RULE. Still though Iran's latest offer has provoke a ray of light in this bewilderment.
If our Arab brothers are smart then they will definitely will work out further in order to promote this plan.Former president Genreal Zia (late) was also working on this,but he was murdered in plane crash.
