Iran, Pakistan vow to promote border security after deadly border attack

TEHRAN, June 29 (Xinhua) -- Senior military commanders of Iran and Pakistan agreed here on Friday to promote cooperation on the security of borders, official IRNA news agency reported.

The agreement was made in a meeting in the capital Tehran between Mohammad Pakpour, commander of the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) Ground Force, and Bilal Akbar, visiting chief of General Staff of the Pakistan Army.

They underlined the boost of the military and security relations, and also stressed the importance of intelligence sharing and fighting terrorists at the border areas.

On Thursday, Iran's Foreign Ministry summoned Pakistani Ambassador to Iran Asif Ali Khan Durrani over a Tuesday terrorist attack on Iranian border guards.

The attack was carried out by armed bandits from Pakistan, which killed three Iranian paramilitary Basij troops and wounded eight others in Mirjaveh.

Mirjaveh is a town in Sistan and Baluchestan Province. It is the main road crossing point between Iran and Pakistan.
