Major Iranian and Pakistani academic centers have agreed to boost bilateral cooperation in academic and educational sectors.
Three Iranian academic centers, including University of Science and Technology, University of Isfahan and University of Damghan, signed Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) with Pakistans COMSATS University on Tuesday in a bid to increase academic cooperation between the two neighboring nations.
The agreement was signed during the two-day COMSATS conference in the Pakistani Capital Islamabad, attended by academicians and presidents of different universities which are the member of the Islamic Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ISESCO).
The agreement contains exchange programs for students and lecturers, holding of joint conferences and workshops and granting scholarships to brilliant students.
Mehdi Javanmard, the head of Inter-Islamic Network of virtual Universities, told IRNA that Iran and Pakistan have always enjoyed strong ties in the educational sectors. Noting that earlier in 2002 the two countries ministries of science and technology signed an agreement to further increase academic cooperation.
Javanmard said that dozens of Pakistani students were now studying for Master degrees and PhD in Iranian universities, and that following the recent agreement the two nations would increase the number of scholarships for the graduate and under graduate students.
