It is rather funny that the article mentions joint exploration and cooperation,that india discovered the Farzad B gas field,but then curiously forgets to mention that india lost the contract to develop that very same field,incredibly not just once..........but TWICE!!.
And all out of fear of displeasing uncle sam

Iran has offered India a strategic cooperation pact on the lines of a deal it signed with China in 2021, two people aware of the matter said, as the sanctions-hit country tries to attract investments in its energy and infrastructure sectors.

Details of the Iran-China deal have remained under wraps. However, according to reports in the international media last year, Beijing will invest close to $400 billion in Iran’s infrastructure and energy sector under a 25-year cooperation agreement. In return, Tehran will provide China with a steady supply of discounted Iranian oil. The deal was seen as a major expansion of Beijing’s footprint in West Asia and an effort by Iran to court non-Western sources for critical investments.
Iran has offered a similar deal to India to attract Indian investments and develop its transport and energy infrastructure, the people cited above said, adding that Ali Bagheri Kani, Iran’s deputy foreign minister confirmed the offer during an interaction with a group of experts during his visit to New Delhi last month.

Details of the proposed India-Iran pact are not yet clear. However, the matter is under consideration of the ministry of external affairs, sources said. The MEA did not respond to a query.

An equivalent deal with India assumes significance given that India was among Iran’s top oil customers till the sanctions took effect. A new compact with oil-rich Iran will help the world’s third largest oil consumer deal with high energy prices.

State-run oil companies such as ONGC and Oil India were also jointly exploring oil and gas in the Gulf country. An Indian consortium discovered the Farzad-B gas field in the Persian Gulf. New Delhi has also played a role in building Iran’s infrastructure. Both sides agreed to continue cooperation in the development of the Shahid Behesti terminal of Chabahar port during Kani’s November visit. For Tehran, such a deal would help develop a rebalance with Asia after tensions over Iran’s nuclear programme with the US and its European allies led to the imposition of sanctions. With Western sources of investment off the table, Iran has been looking at powers like China, India and Russia.

The biggest issue is the border obviously. India wants McMahon Line (Southern Tibet/Arunachal Pradesh) and Johnson Line (Aksai Chin sector) as the border. China doesn't recognize these two lines drawn by the British without ever getting consulted.

Unless India gets energy at a discount from the international market, going against sanctions doesn’t make much strategic sense.

India should start negotiating with Venezuela too.

It fears western sanctions. They're lucky enough to coast around russian oil restrictions as it is.

At the same time, you need to push for green energy and increase energy efficiency domestically.

Just imagine if instead of being wholly reliant on russian gas,they`d instead also worked to access iranian and qatari gas as well.
But instead they went along with us sanctions on iran which effectively locked them out of pipeline access to not only iranian but also qatari gas as well.

An oil pipeline from Iran to India and China through Pakistan is what makes sense...In a world without US interference that pipeline was "Peace Pipeline" 20 years ago. Still can be done just need some balls from Pakistani side.

Arab oil (whatever is left of it!) is reserved for Western consumption in war or crisis times...India and China need oil coming from Politically INDEPENDENT source. ..that source is Iran or Russia but Russia is too far for a pipeline. Pakistan is the missing link in this story and all they have to do is give a solid political Yes to the pipeline. Iran ,China and India can even finance their section of pipe line. If I was sitting in New Delhi I be thinking about how do I get reliable OIL to run all those TATA cars on the roads !!!..the answer is obvious..go see the mullahs of Iran..and on your way make a stop in Islamabad!

It made economic sense for them to depend on Russia for gas, but not from a security standpoint. Russia offered cheapest gas through pipes, which other countries will need to ship to Europe through more expensive LNG. The cheap gas gave European companies a mean to keep their product/services cost down.

That's why US pushing for NATO expansion and egging the Ukrainians on was a geopolitical masterstroke. With sanctions, US weakened Russia and forced European industries to move to US as cheap Russian gas was no longer available.

Iran wants highest price for its oil. China and India want the lowest price for their oil. I will let you figure out the rest. it is a fundamental conflict of interest. If it is upto Iran they will fleece you at $200-250 per barrel.

Saudis are less hard on their position with respect to oil prices. I hope you get the drift

Far as I know , no Pakistani Gov or officials have ever come out to voiced any concerns on your two countries deals. Nothing.

This “25 year deal” is a bunch of propaganda. Zero results from this so called strategic deal. Anything that China has done since the deal signing is normal Chinese behavior that also happened BEFORE its signing. Nothing out of the ordinary.
