How does the Iranian economy feel after 40 years of the economic blockade? How can Russia and Iran develop cooperation in the future? Pravda.Ru conducted an interview on the subject with Rosnano investment director, Vadim Veschezerov.

"A lot has been said recently about the Russian-Iranian cooperation in the field of high technologies. Can Russia and Iran cooperate in the high-tech industry instead of oil and fruit?"

"In my view, this is exactly where we can work together most effectively. Russia and Iran are competitors when it comes to oil. Fruit is growing in many other countries of the world, not just in Iran. Iran is an interesting country, because this is the only highly developed, high-tech country of the Islamic world. In all other countries of the Islamic world, even if they have ultramodern industry, they have achieved it with someone else's help. Iran has achieved everything alone. In some areas, Iran is a big player. Iran has a very good chemical industry and the world's only independent pharmaceutical industry.

"I'm not talking about the nuclear program of Iran. Unlike Pakistan and other countries, Iran had no opportunity to borrow - the country was doing everything alone."

"Has Russia lost the moment for developing cooperation with Iran? We had a unique opportunity, when Iran was living in a blockade, but now there are plenty of Americans and Europeans there.

"We have two or three years. I am personally studying the events that are now happening in the country. Unfortunately, we have very few people in Russia, who realize the peculiarities and structure of Iran, or how to build relationships with the Iranian side.

"Technically, we must explore every area where we can cooperate. In almost 40 years of blockade, the Iranians have learned to do many things and they have reached great progress, but, of course, they can not do everything. For example, their electronics is a very weak point. They are interested in chemistry, mathematics and computer science.

Not that long ago, the secretary of the Supreme Coordination Council of Free and Special Economic Zones of Iran, Akbar Torkan, named five main branches of classical economics that in his view are interesting for foreigners. They are petrochemical, automotive, power generation, steel and cement industries.

"Any industry needs high technologies. In Iran, there is a very strong group of companies working in the field of nanotechnology - this is a priority direction for them. This area is entrusted to the Iranian Council for the development of nanotechnologies.

"We must not forget that the country has been living under the conditions of economic blockade for 40 years. They have learned not only to survive, but to develop independently. As they say: "Thank you, America. You've turned us from consumers to entrepreneurs."

"In what areas does Rosnano intend to cooperate with Iran?"

"We are most attracted to pharmaceuticals. We have something that interests the Iranian side - drugs and medical devices. In Iran, there are very interesting medical devices and medications that can be potential on the international market. In India, the pharmaceutical industry is completely built on copying others, and the Iranians have their own developments.

"They have a very unique system to encourage scientists and engineers to go into business. For example, if you offer a startup in the high-tech industry, the state can pay a share in the company for you. In three or four years, if you fulfill the agreement with the state, if you create a product, a medication or something else, the state will sell you this share for one rial.

"Now that the sanctions are being removed, Russian energy companies have many opportunities in Iran. The USSR had built most of the Iranian energy industry - and they remember that."

. . .
well, imho, technically, may be the Turkey should be called most developed islamic country.. well, ... just saying :)
Cheers

Yes. Maybe. They do not have any nuclear technology. They can not launch a satellite into space. They do not have missile technology. They tried to build a drone and designed it too heavy to fly, so had to beg Israelis to redesign it for them but still it has not become operational. They even buy their battery powered hand launched drones from Israel.

So yeah, overall they are very advanced. After all they are in NATO and being in NATO and getting American military aid does help.

.
Iran is yet to achieve a lot and it will do so after the sanctions r lifted....
I see increased co operation and trade among our countries in.coming dayss

.
Yes. Maybe. The biggest export of Turkey is textile. Mostly underwear and bras and such stuff. They do not have any nuclear technology. They can not launch a satellite into space. Trolling and troll-baiting on your own thread. Good going:enjoy:

Reminds me of when Iran plays second and third tier Asian teams in soccer/football and how these second and third tier teams bark and bark, no matter how many times they get their asses handed to them.

In this case Iranians on this site are doing the barking. Iran isn't the "most developed" among anyone, unless you're comparing Iran to the likes of Afghanistan and Kazakhstan. Turkey, UAE, Oman etc... are all 1000 times more developed with much more advanced economies.

Just because Iran and N. Korea can launch a 100 pound puny radio into LEO, it doesn't mean we can OVERLOOK what's right in front of our eyes, and that is Turkey's brilliant export based economy or UAE's profitable banking and shipping sectors or either country's extremely profitable tourism industry. In every sector, they are ahead. Sending bottle rockets to the low earth orbit is an act reserved for the likes of North Korea and Iran.

Iranians are genetically different people. They are people to whom we knew as Parsis in India. Basically they are very intelligent and smart unlike Arabs. They need to get out of Islamic hostality and emerge as a nation respecting Human rights and world order. Iran can emerge as a very respectable member of International community.

.
Nice article. Iran's policy of self sufficiency is a model for the world. Though with the current technology a lot of things may be difficult to make Iran has tried to be independent and its foreign policy speaks of this. It does not fear sending arms to Hezbollah or Hamas when they are fighting Israel, it does not fear the might of the Americans. It is a country that deserves to be respected. Iran also has the highest research and development percentage of GDP in the muslim world.

Our policy and Irans are poles apart. The article mentioned well that we have allies from which to get our weapons-like China, Iran does not and since it has worked so hard to be independent and Russia is trying to snub the west the two nations should seek a strong relationship. It will give Iran a much needed ally.

.

and biggest Iranian exports outside of petro-chemical products are grapes and carpets

there are a lot of contributing factors to developed state , Iran exceeds in some but Turkey exceeds in many others
overall Turkey has a more developed economy and overall more developed country.

.
I think Iran Needs 150 modern fighters to keep the House of Saud in check and Russia should provide them.
maybe a Combination of Su35 and Su34 can help in dealing with Saudi F15SAs and Typhoons
The moment Iran would buy 150 of these KSA will buy 3 times more

.
The moment Iran would buy 150 of these KSA will buy 3 times more

The Saudis have 150 F15SA, 72 Typhoons for air superiority and 84 Tornadoes for Ground Attack,
That's a formidable fleet, which on paper is more capable than the PAF and Turkish Air force
And only just below Israel
If Saudis were half as competent as Pakistanis, they would have ruled the middle east

Compared to that

Iran barely has 3-4 decent sqds of F14 And Mig29

A lot of those carpets come from Pakistan.
