Iran issues threat to world leaders

Nuclear weapon free Iran is better for Pakistan.

I came across some fairly astute analysis a while ago on why Iran will never achieve a "declared" nuclear weapon status into the foreseeable future the same way Pakistan did in 1998.

Their goal is to become a para-nuclear state at the most, which already applies to nations such as Japan and Germany (with variable degrees of "para-ness" of course).

It is true that if Iran were to go nuclear it would continue the same diplomatic and verbal tight-rope walking it is doing now and keep profiting off the fear factor. However with the boastful ways of this specific regime and of the impact such an event will have for the "sons of the Islamic revolution" I believe no matter what they are headed on a crash course, and it would be best to contain Iran's ambitions early because the western nuclear powers will find excuses to chop off the "Islamic bomb" starting with Iran for justification and ending with Pakistan for assurance and to drive home a message. Their goal of staying under the radar with a nuclear stockpile like Germany or Japan is next to impossible given geo-political context of this region in my opinion.

Well I thank you for adding a perspective - I never quite thought of it that way. Not sure if I completely agree with it, but your pessimisim is not groundless. And I recognize that you potentially have (way) more in-depth knowledge about this than I do.

I shall walk away chewing on the thoughts.

On the surface, Mr. Najad does like to make it hard for "Iran's friends" and easy for "Iran's enemies". As another PDF member once said, he was like a "gift that keeps on giving" ... whether or not to the right recipients is apparently not of his foremost concern.

That's why as a curious outsider, I hold a comparatively neutral view these days on "regime change" in Iran. As along as it doesn't happen the way it did in Iraq - then it's up to the Iranians themselves whether or not they insist on a change of horse in the middle of the game ...
