Well, copper could also give red color to the soil if I'm not mistaken. There are many mountains around Tehran that look kinda red because of copper traces if my memory is working fine.

could be, but that red looks distinctly like Iron ore, I used to export them so looked similar. Iran does have lot of Iron ore deposits as well right?
