Its true we dont need a nuke, but we do need a credible nuclear deterrent. Ie not having an assembled bomb, but the capability to produce one, should the need arise.
Something which we have already achieved and will not ever give up.

Let me ask you a Q, In a God forbiden probable atomic war btw Pakistan and the USA how do you want to defend yourself? is it posibble? do you think having nukes make you immune to it? possessing nuke would surly add you to their atomic warfare targets list.
One the other hand it's a blind weapon, would you like to use it against civilians?

Actually , against USA , you need nuclear warhead with - at least - 1 Mega Ton power , ICBMs , Satellites , nuclear submarines and ....

and if we spend all of our money in this field , in best case we could only make 20-30 nukes with ICBMS .....

but USA have more than 3000 nuclear bomb ready ....

in other words : we have no chance in nuclear war with nuclear super powers .... so we prefer to fight without an heavy weapon that we can't wag it in battle ....

and don't forget :

USA isn't India and Iran isn't Pakistan ...
