What's new

Iran has asked Pakistan to construct a portion of the Iran-Pakistan gasline,or be ready to pay a penalty of $18 billion.

Pakistan should not extend the pipeline to India but should build and extend it to China if possible.

Pakistan has been helping Ukraine with munitions from what i read, this could’ve been an ask in return for support to Ukraine.

Short sighted limp dick generals lack any foresight.
Straight up no negotiation skills

What are they going to do, if we don't do it?

Invade? Lmao
No,they`ll take it to arbitration and they`ll more than likely win and then pakistan will probably not only be slapped with a judgement against it for the couple of billion odd dollars in outstanding penalty fees for non completion of the pipeline by the agreed date[waaaay back in 2015],but will likely also face considerable additional financial penalties as well.
A good example of this sort of thing was the s300 deal that iran took to arbitration. The original contract was for 800 million but the russians being found in breach of the contract were slapped with a 4 billion dollar penalty.
Iran had been going to take pakistan to arbitration back in late 2019 but pakistan begged for more time claiming that it had not abandoned the project. This lead to the revised Gas Sales Agreement (GSA) in September 2019 which gave pakistan until 2024 to build its section.
Sadly pakistan did nothing with the extra time it had been granted and now it looks like the iranians have finally run out of patience.
Considering pakistans current wretched economic state, this literally couldnt have come at a worse time,oh well.....:coffee:

difficult to digest despite sharing border with one of the largest producer of cheap gas, Pakistan has not secured unintruptted gas supply line with Iran yet..

Nothing new on Pakistan reneging on signed contracts. They duped the Iranians into investing millions building thier side of the pipeline till Pakistans border and the Pakistani's kept promising but did eff all.
Has cost the Iranians billions and left them high and dry.

Iranians will never get into any economic agreements with Pakistan ever again, even after the Mullah's are in resting peacefully in their graves.
Pakistan, one of the most incompetent and unreliable country's in the world.

It does what its told to do when hit with a large stick.

Iran is a neighbor - its a major commitment they did to keep up their end of the bargain. what are they going to do? never honor another contract or never believe Pakistan again.
Paksitani citizen can go back on his word but Pakistan the state should have much higher ethics.
do barter trade, rice./grain for gas.
Pakistan currently is net importer of wheat (Russian wheat coming in to Pakistan most recently).

Should have really asked for this pipeline as part of CPEC and be done with it - at the very least it would reduce the blackouts and the high price of gas for households
think of all the industries (textiles mostly) that could continue to run on Gas based power plants - would not be facing another IMF bailout and economy collapse!

but there are two opposing forces for an Iran Pakistan pipeline - US and KSA.

How Is Turkey Armenia and Iraq Buying This Gas Then???Please Stop Fearing America Is No God
They are to you

They won’t just govern you they will rule like an occupied 3 world colony. No Green Cards.
Still a better outcome than Pakistanis ruling themselves - haven’t exactly done a good job over the past 75 years

2) There is no population on the Chinese side. 90% of China's population is in East and South Eastern China (close to ASEAN/Korea)

Yeah and there is no population there but the chinese still built pipelines carrying Turkmenistan's gas through China's western border. The gas pipelines are aren't really primarily for China western population, those pipelines extend from west to east china. If China does build the pipelines it will be have another alternative source of fuel, now whether it makes economic sense is another story, considering the rates for turkmen gas are incredibly low b/c Turkmenistan currently realistically only has one buyer in China, there is no Turkmen gas pipeline(like the proposed trans caspian pipeline) to carry the gas west to other markets. the only pipelines that existed before the chinese pipeline were the old soviet pipelines, and the Russians don't exactly need gas as they produce their own.

The pros of an iranian pipeline for china are that it would have 3 players for gas, and be able to use Russia, Turkmenistan and Iran to play them off each other and get lower prices. It would also prop up a strategic partner for China, but other than that, it doesn't make economic sense. b/c the Turkmen gas is already so cheap, and Russia is in the process of losing its European buyers from the fallout of the Ukraine war, so will be willing to sell to China for a lot less.

This gas pipeline would benefit Pakistan the most. It would also improve ties between the two countries and lower Indian influence on Iranians. Pakistan can buy cheap oil and gas from Iran and let Iranian oil and gas reach Indian markets via Pakistani pipelines and earn billions in transit fees. This is a huge opportunity Pakistan is missing out on. Pakistan can balance its energy suppliers and still buy oil and gas in limited quantities from Arab countries.
Pakistan has always had such golden opportunities but missed every single one of them.

right here there is huge opportunity to earn transit fees and increase leverage and reduce energy cost for GOP, but they are still running behind imaginary China trucks to pay billion in transit via CPEC while massing debt.

And what if Pakistan does not agree to the arbritation? What can they do to a nuclear power ?

What did they do to Russia- also a nuclear power?

Sanctions aren't worthy of Nukes.
I'm not sure what the true redline of nukes actually is.

They gonna let your citizens freeze in the winter . What's wrong with this Sunni pride? cannot import cost effective shia gas from just across the border but are willing to make Pakistanis lives miserable even in the summer.
