Also, aircrafts like the F/A-18 have a combat radius of ~750km for Air to Air missions & ~ 600km for air to ground missions! So to even hit Iran's main naval base at Bandar Abbas in southern Iran they would still have to park within range of land based Iranian anti ship missiles!

If U.S. gets over confident of it's capability they will do a blitz attack with a carrier group inside the Persian Gulf but I'd say that would be a foolish move because the U.S. can easily park half its fleet in the Mediterranean and half in northern Indian ocean outside the reach of Iran's capabilities and fire cruise missiles at Iran as they move towards the Persian Gulf taking out target after target. And in such a case the main responsibility of US carriers will only be protecting the US fleet against incoming Aircraft, UAV, UCAV's, cruise missiles & incoming Iranian naval vessels!

This will save a lot of American lives BUT in any case Iran will be going after US puppet states & will ONLY go after the US Navy if they come within ~600km of Iranian soil and that's the dilemma US is stuck with either loose 1000's of American lives in a matter of days in trying to prevent Iran from shutting down 1/3 of the worlds Oil supply and protect it's puppets OR sacrifice your puppet states for a war against Iran to save American lives.

Whatever the U.S. chooses to do Iran will be going after U.S. puppets because they are the ones that practically fund the U.S. military industrial complex with ~$100 Billion USD of weapons sales a year and that's just weapons the damage Iran will do to US puppets will put the U.S. economy in a steep downfall!
Because once Iran kills the Oil & Tourism industry in US puppet states they will have no money to buy new toys and what money they have left will have to go towards reconstruction and because of their low budget US firms will be too expensive for them! Opening the door for China and maybe even Iran. By 2015 Iran was the 4th largest cement producer in the world!

So many countries do start wars with the U.S. You should know that. 9/11 attacks, Iraqi invasion of Kuwait, North Korea invading South Korea, North Vietnam invading South Vietnam, Japan attacking the U.S. Mexico attack U.S. Germany planning with Mexico to attack the U.S. before intervening in WW1. Even British attacking American ships and impressing American sailors to fight the French. I could go on.

In any case, doesn't matter how much you try to threaten, you know what the U.S. Navy is capable of during the tanker wars. And even when you claim advances in military technology, the U.S. Navy was prepared to fight the Soviet Union with its doctrine to fight carrier strike groups. And we made advances of our own.
