TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iranian space scientists have concluded research on the conceptual design of a homegrown manned spacecraft together with its carrier rocket, or launch vehicle.
The Iranian Space Agency is working hard to meet a 2025 deadline for sending astronauts to space.

During the conceptual design phase, researchers designed and unveiled a mock-up of a spacecraft, designed for sub-orbital spaceflight.

Now that the conceptual design phase is over, Tasnim has obtained a blueprint for the Iranian spacecraft and its carrier rocket.

The craft, which would weigh one ton, is designed to enter space in 9 main stages following the start of engines of the launch vehicle and return to earth safely.

The Iranian manned spacecraft is scheduled to reach an altitude of 175 kilometers before descent.

Spend billions to send a man 175 km up and then down! to what end? The money would be better spent sending an Iranian telecommunication satellite into space

Billions !?

This is just a sub orbital...

The main goal which is orbital mission takes billions to achieve !

Earth is reaching its limits to sustain human race growth. The next big thing coming is asteroid mining, space manufacturing, orbital colonies and etc. The countries that are left behind should beg others for resources in the near future.

You need to calculate everything from the cost of education and training of personal to the turtles and monkeys to the 1st manned space launch all the failed lunches in between and the failed launches to come... Everything!
Sending a man up to 175 KM will likely be just under a billion if you calculate everything and to achieve what exactly?
And what happens if you fail the 1st time around?

Plus, this capsule will not be used for an actual orbital launch let alone be capable of taking someone to the international space station so it's useless you gain nothing while you could have used the money and resources to send an actual working satellite into space! Do you know how far behind Iran is in that aspect?

With the budget that we have we need a space program with strict priorities and goals! I'm not against a manned Iranian space program at the right time!
And the right time is when Iran has the capability to put a 500 kg satellite into GEO! Only then will I agree to the necessity of manned space travel but NOT before!

I fully agree that our scientists and students should research the subject and build smaller working prototype using Shahab-3 missiles that we have an ample supply of but no more! at least not at this point in time!

You can have parallel projects. What you're saying is do NO WORK WHATSOEVER on any manned mission and only do 1 thing. Thats not right. Sending a 500 kg satellite to GEO is much harder than sending 1 man on a suborbital flight. You need to send a 500 kg to orbit at 36000 km above the earth whereas this is a 1800 kg capsule just going to 175 km and then back down again, no orbit!

The knowledge and expertise from making a heavier SLV would be used in order to send a satellite to GEO. You can't do 50 kg microsats in LEO to suborbital monkeys to 500 kg in GEO, its too big a step.

Iran does not have the cash to carry out projects that absolutely have no use other than national pride!

I need you to go compare how many satellites Iran has in space vs other countries in the world with a GDP less than Iran have just go and compare and then come to me and tell me it's OK for us to spend this money on a fruitless mission!

In fact here http://satellitedebris.net/Database/LaunchHistoryView.php?page=1

Go see for yourself

Right now all our investment should be going towards something real, something useful and something that will have a strategic purpose!

Once we have the technology to actually take real advantage of space travel is the only time we should spend money on a manned space flight!

The race for a manned space flight is over! There is absolutely no need to rush into this!

And yes Iran should no doubt have parallel projects we should have parallel SLV projects to build more advanced SLV we should be working on SLV's with larger engines and SLV with cluster engines both in solid and liquid fuel designs

We should have parallel satellite projects!

We should have a detailed manned program with a detailed plans to send a man into orbit with a vehicle capable of reaching and docking with the international space station by 2030! I have no problem with that!

Iran has officially announced that it plans to send a sat into GEO by 2025 so at this time that should be the main focus and reaching that goal by any means necessary and that's where the bulk of our resources should be invested towards

The SLV doesn't have to be used only for a manned flight. It could also be used to launch satellites, while giving experience for bigger SLVs. So the only "prestige" money is going to the space capsule and suit, which really isn't much. Think about it, Iranians paying less than 1$ each (average) for the entire space program. What will the capsule cost? 10 cents each? 20? Money is not an issue.

Seriously? Come on!

1st off we have ~80 Million people if they were to pay $10 each that would be $800,000 Million USD not even enough to pay for a real space program!

2ndly wasting resources isn't always financial!

At the end of the day this launch equals to one less Iranian satellite into space and currently that's the only number that concerns me and clearly if Iran had the resources to send more satellites into space we would of but we don't and until we get to a point where we have enough sat's to provide for all the needs of the country then satellites should be the only thing going on top of Iranian rockets and not anything else!

Are you alright?

80 million x $10 = $800 million

$800,000 million would be 800 billion dollars. That would be double our nominal GDP. It would also be 40 times NASA's budget. Iran's current budget is about $75 million.

Whatever. You say Iran should only put a man in space when all its satellite needs are fulfilled. You realise that would be... never? There are always more satellites to build. Communication satellites, spy satellites, weather satellites, earth observation satellites, research satellites, all of which need to be replaced when their orbit decays or they become outdated.

If Iran wants to put its space program on the map, it needs to put a man in space, simple as. It's best to do that as soon as the capability is available. Iran has managed thousands of years without satellites, waiting another few months or maybe a year isn't going to harm anyone.

Yet another number and another digit... an inside info? A kid that knows everything!!

I have a question if you may...

How much Iran must spend to have an active production line of 43 Shahed-129 UCAVs p.a?

How thick are the metal sheets used in the armored lower end of the hull of the new Sahand Class frigates being built in Iran?

Actually, the figure of 175 km is quite reasonable, and actually official.

Ye cheez hai megee!

And how the heck did you get to $800 Billion?
Iran has 80 Million people if you had a dollar for everyone of them that would be $80 million USD!!!
If you had $10 dollars for every one that would be 800 MILLION USD!!!!
if you had $100 for every one that would be $8 Billion USD!!!!!
if you had $1,000 for everyone that would be 80 Billion USD!!!!
if you had $10,000 for everyone that would be $800 Billion USD!!!!

bobba ay val!!

1st off NASA's 2016 budget was $19 Billion USD so a $1 Billion USD budget for the space program of a country the size of Iran is absolutely nothing!

With a budget of $71 Million USD a year you will never be able to have a real space program and maybe that's exactly why Iran now only has 1 research satellite in space right now that probably doesn't even work!

Having a $71 million USD space program means you don't really have a space program!
Means you don't have any advanced R&D projects, you don't have any plans on sending anything of any value to space, you don't have any plans on building any real usable satellites, you aren't building any new facilities and in fact you aren't building nothing...

http://www.aftabir.com/news/view/20...اختصاص-۳-هزار-و-۹۶۰-میلیارد-تومان-برای-سازمان

SO $71 Million USD budget is absolutely absorbed! It just shows we are broke right now... And to top it off I believe you are mistaken because the budget for Iran's space program has been split between different organizations
for example the ISRC also has a $70 million USD budget...

how about this, the day after Iran puts a 500kg working communication satellite in GEO is the day I'll be ok with a manned space program NOT before!
And if you think 500 kg is a lot then check again because that's only 1/10 the size of Turkey's TurkSat that has mass of approximately 4,910 Kg (~10,000 lb)

Sending a man 175km up would have put Iran's Space program on the map 50 years ago but not anymore! Today it is far more impressive to put a sat in GEO than to put a man 175km up!

Iran managed 1000's of years without computers, aircrafts, submarines, etc SO WHAT?

Even AZERBAIJAN has a satellite in GEO so for Iran to spend it's recourses on building a space suit, a space craft & a carrier rocket all while it doesn't even have a single satellite in GEO is absolutely absorbed!
